Today, we’re going to do a comparison on the Mahindra XUV700 against the Toyota’s Fortuner to see which one would be correct choice for you!
At the front of the XUV700, you can see there is the grille with twin-vertical bars and the last twin vertical bars bends to give that flowing into LED headlamps which those two lines act as LED DRLs as well. The side profile of the XUV700 is just clean with roofline, the smart door handle for improved aerodynamics, and wheel arch lines. At the rear, it has the arrow-shape taillamps with the bumper finished in faux silver skid plate.
At the front of the Fortuner, there is the grille in three horizontal lines with chrome elements going at the side and covering the LED headlamps on both the sides, below is the bumper finished in faux silver skid plate both front and rear. Moving to the side, it has step-up side step to get into the car with chrome door handles and alloy wheels of 18-inch. At the rear, it has sort-of wing like LED taillamps with chrome around the number plate.
Both the cars have the dual-tone interior options. However, the XUV700 has dual screen 10.25-inch infotainment system and digital instrument cluster where as the Fortuner has 8-inch infotainment system and analog instrument cluster with TFT unit between the two dials. AC vents in the XUV700 are placed below the infotainment system where as the AC Vents are placed above the infotainment system. Both the cars have three-spoke multi-function steering wheel. The XUV700 has 12-speaker Sony 3D sound system where as the Fortuner has the 6-speaker standard sound system.

As you can see at the dimensions, the XUV700 has a length of 4695mm which is 100mm shorter than the Fortuner’s 4795mm length. The XUV700 however has a width of 1890mm which is 35mm more than the Fortuner’s 1855mm. The Fortuner has a height of 1835mm which is 80mm more than the XUV700 1755mm height. The XUV700 has a wheelbase of 2750mm which is just 5mm longer than the Fortuner’s 2745mm wheelbase.
The Fortuner however has 25mm more ground clearance than the XUV700 as it got 225mm where as the XUV700 has 200mm ground clearance. The Fortuner has a fuel tank of 80 litres which is 20 litres more than the XUV700 60 litres fuel tank. The XUV700 has a kerb weight of 1,735 kg which is 445 kg lighter than the Fortuner’s 2,180 kg Kerb weight. Lastly, is the gross weight which is 2,471 kg for the XUV700 which makes it 264 kg lighter than the Fortuner 2,735 kg.

The Mahindra XUV700 has one petrol and one diesel engines on offer. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine produces 182.38 bhp and 450 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission and 6-speed Automatic Transmission with a fuel efficiency of 17 km/l on Manual and 16.57 km/l on the Automatic Transmission. The diesel engine has a top speed of 191.8 kmph.

The Toyota Fortuner has two diesel and one petrol engine on offer. It uses the 2.8-litre diesel engine that puts out 201 bhp and 500 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed iMT Transmission or 6-speed Sequential Shift Automatic Transmission. The second diesel is the same 2.8-litre diesel engine with 201 bhp except it has 420 Nm of torque paired to the same transmissions. Both the diesel engines has a fuel efficiency of 8 km/l and can go from 0 – 100 kmph in around 10 seconds
Then, there is the 2.7-litre petrol engine that puts out 163 bhp and 245 Nm of torque paired to 5-speed Manual Transmission or 6-speed Sequential Shift Automatic Transmission and provides with a fuel efficiency of 10 km/l. It can go from 0 – 100 kmph in around 13 seconds at a top speed of 190 kmph.

As you can see at the features list, the Fortuner fells short to offer better feature than the XUV700 as the XUV700 has 12-speaker Sony 3D sound system where as the Fortuner has Toyota’s 6-speaker standard sound system. In Infotainment system, the XUV700 has 10.25-inch display on offer while the Fortuner has 8-inch infotainment system. The XUV700 has 2-zone automatic climate controls for the AC while the Fortuner has only automatic climate control. It also has no sunroof on offer. Thus, makes XUV700 win this feature comparison over the Fortuner.

As you can see at the safety features list, the Fortuner misses out various safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre-Pressure Monitor System (TPMS), ADAS, automatic headlamps, and 360-degree camera and instead has reverse-parking camera. Thus, the XUV700 is much safer than the Fortuner even in safety features as the XUV700 as a safety rating of 5-star GNCAP and has a win in this safety category as well.

The Mahindra XUV700 starts at Rs. 15.92 lakh for the base MX variant and goes all the way up to Rs. 30.73 lakh for the top variant AX7 Luxury Pack AWD Automatic. Meanwhile the Fortuner starts at Rs. 37.87 lakh for the 4×2 variant and goes up to Rs. 60 lakh for the GR S 4×4 Automatic variant.
In the end, the decision to buy which car depends totally on you, however, if you ask us, we would recommend you to buy the Mahindra XUV700 because how much feature-loaded, and safety it has on offer and also has 5-star safety Global NCAP rating.
