Maruti Fronx against the Tata Nexon, who would’ve thought this two SUVs will go neck-to-neck to achieve the best SUV title. Is Fronx really the best SUV or Tata Nexon is a threat to the Compact SUVs segment? Let’s do a detailed comparison of the two SUVs!
The Fronx design at the front is inspired from their own mid-size SUV, Grand Vitara. It has LED DRLs with tri-rounded LED projector headlamps below the DRLs . The bumpers of the fronx front and rear are finished in faux silver skid plate. It has body classing all over the car with 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and non-functional roof rails. Moving to the rear, it has LED taillamps with connecting LED light bar and a little spoiler at the top.
Tata Nexon front has black element that connect withs the LED headlamps with LED DRLs inside the headlamps that kind of look similar to the rear taillamps and the bottom is the tri-arrow grille with fog lamps at the sides. From the side, it has creases to give it mean look. It has a non-functional roof-rail and rides on the 16-inch alloy wheels. The front and rear bumper are finished in silver faux skid plate. At the rear, it has LED taillamps with two lines within them and has a rear wiper at the rear windscreen with shark fin antenna on top.
From the inside, the Fronx has 9-inch infotainment system placed above the AC Vents and at the sides, AC Vents are positioned horizontally. The Fronx has been given the option for the dual-tone dashboard. It has three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with Analog instrument cluster and TFT display, and has no sunroof on offer, unfortunately. It has a two USB-ports at the rear and one at the front. It has fabric seats on offer with rear seats having 60:40 split. It also has 6-speaker Arkamys sound system.
As for the Nexon, it has a 7-inch infotainment system placed above the AC vents, and the AC Vents are positioned horizontally. The Nexon does not have the dual-tone dashboard option. It has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, and single-pane sunroof. It has a rotary dial before the gear lever for drive modes, and the buttons for the ventilated seats are placed at the bottom side of the seat. The Nexon has a leather seat upholstery and an 8-speaker Harman sound system. The seats at the rear are split in 60:40 ratio.
In the end, from the outside, the Fronx gives Premium and spacious vibes than the Nexon as the design of the Fronx is much better than the Nexon. Even from the inside, the Fronx is preferrable given that the layout is always the same in Maruti Cars, but still the Fronx is preferrable over the Nexon as the Fronx gives the Spacious feeling.

When it comes to dimensions, the Fronx measures 3995mm in length, 1765mm in width, and 1550mm in height. The Nexon measures 3993mm in length which is 2mm shorter, width of 1811mm which is 46mm less wide, and height of 1606mm that is taller by 56mm. The Fronx has a wheelbase of 2520mm and ground clearance of 190mm while the Nexon has a wheelbase of 2498mm that is shorter by 22mm and ground clearance of 209mm that is higher by 19mm. The Fronx has a boot space of 308 litres, Fuel Tank of 37 litres, and kerb weight of 1,060 kg. The Nexon on the other hand has a bigger boot of 350 litres which is 42 litres bigger, fuel tank of 44 litres that is 7 litres bigger, and kerb weight of 1,315 kg that is heavier by 255 kg.

Well, when it comes to Turbo engines, both the SUVs has the turbo petrol engines on offer. The Fronx has the 1.0-litre Turbo BoosterJet petrol engine which produces 100 bhp and 147.6 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed Manual Transmission with fuel efficiency of 21.5 kmpl and 6-speed Automatic Transmission with fuel efficiency of 20.01 kmpl. The Nexon on the other hand, is powered by the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that puts out 118.35 bhp and 170 Nm of torque mated to the same 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Transmission with fuel efficiency of 17.05 kmpl. Other than the turbo-petrol engine, Tata Nexon has one more turbo engine, and that is the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. The Fronx does not have any diesel engines on offer. When it comes to safety features, the Nexon seems to be better as except for the Heads-up Display (HUD), it’s really safe given that Global NCAP has rated 5 stars for the Nexon. However, it only has two airbags at the front while Fronx has six airbags, and misses out on 360-degree camera as well. The Fronx misses out on Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and Traction Control. The Global NCAP rating for the Fronx is not out yet but it’s your choice on which SUV you consider safest.

The Fronx is priced at Rs. 7.46 lakh for the base ‘Sigma’ variant and goes up to Rs. 13.13 lakh for the ‘Alpha Turbo DT Automatic’ variant where as the Nexon is priced at Rs. 7.80 lakh for the base ‘XE’ variant and goes up to Rs. 14.50 lakh for the top variant, ‘XZA Plus LUXS Red Dark’ Diesel Automatic. As you can see, the price difference between the two base model is Rs. 34,000 and Rs. 1.37 lakh for the top variant.
As for the warranty, Maruti offers 2 years/40,000 km warranty period for the Fronx that can be extended up to 5 years/1,00,000. Tata Motors on the other hand offers 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for Nexon and can be extended for additional 3 year/1,25,000 km.
In the end, the decision to buy which SUV depends totally on you, however, we recommend the Tata Nexon over the Fronx as the Nexon is little more practical than the Fronx and the comfort on both the SUVs will be almost the same. Moreover, the Nexon has more features and 5-star Global NCAP rated safety and safety features on offer. While the Fronx is also not bad, it’s great as well, and is little more affordable than the Nexon, given the exterior and the interior looks spacious and premium-vibes from outside, it depends on you which SUV you should buy that really makes you satisfied.
