Maruti Jimny vs Hyundai Creta – Exterior and Interior

Maruti Jimny from the outside looks like box-shape SUV. It has round shape LED headlamps with five rectangular blocks on the grille and the logo in center. The Jimny has body cladding all over the body and small LED foglamps on the hard-plastic black body at the front. It has faux silver skid plate bumper at the front. Moving to the side, it has upright pillars, with square shape windows and the extended portion behind the rear door has a large vertical glass surrounded by thick pillars. Moving to the rear, it has spare wheel mounted on the door with exposed hinges, and the taillamps are on the bumpers. The Jimny rides on the 15-inch alloy wheels.

As you can see at the front of the Creta, it has square-shaped grille with top edges curved and is finished in chrome with four horizontal line across the grille. Split LED DRLS with tri-square shaped LED lights with fog lamps and indicators below them and the bumpers are finished in faux silver skid plate. Moving to the side, it’s simple looking with roof rails on top and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. At the rear, the LED taillamps looks similar to the split headlamps at the front.

From the inside, the Jimny has a 9-inch infotainment system with a rectangular shape AC vent below and round AC vents at the sides. On the dashboard it has a grab handle to either get in the Jimny or to hold onto it when off-roading. It has three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with Analog instrument cluster and a TFT display between the analog dials. Below the auto climate controls, there are buttons for hill descent control, traction control, window control for passenger and driver, and right next to the engine start/stop there is button called headlamp washer to sprinkle some water on the headlamps. Then there is the lever for the low range transfer, and just below that is the buttons for window controls for the rear passenger. The front passenger and driver can be fully reclined as well. The rear seats are split in 60:40 ratio and it has 4-speaker Arkamy’s sound system.

As for the Creta, it has a 10.25-inch infotainment system placed below the AC vent and at the sides it has vertically positioned AC vents. The Creta does not have the dual-tone theme dashboard option unfortunately. It has multi-function four-spoke steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, the pedals finished in silver color, and a huge panoramic sunroof. Around the gear lever which is designed like the one in Planes or similar to the one’s in Audi, it has rotary dials for drive modes, button for electric parking brake with auto hold function, and for the ventilated seat . It has two USB-A ports at the front, and two at the rear. The rear seats has 60:40 split which can be reclined as well.

So, from the outside, and the inside, If you’re looking for off-road SUV, the Jimny looks good both from the outside and the inside. If not, then the Hyundai Creta looks premium both from the outside and from the inside.

When it comes to dimensions, the Jimny measures 3985mm in length, 1645mm in width, and 1720mm in height. The Hyundai Creta measures 4300mm in length which is 315mm longer, width of 1790mm which is 135mm wider, and height of 1635mm that is shorter by 115mm. The Jimny has a wheelbase of 2590mm, and ground clearance of 210mm where as the Creta has a wheelbase of 2610mm which is longer by 20mm, and ground clearance of 190mm that is lower by 20mm. The Jimny has a boot space of 208 litres, fuel tank of 40 litres, and a kerb weight of 1,210 kg while the Creta has a boot of 433 litres that is bigger by 225 litres, fuel tank of 50 litres which is bigger by 10 litres, and has a kerb weight of 1,690 kg which is heavier by 480 kg.

So, in dimensions, the Creta is much bigger than the Jimny giving you more space and comfort than the Jimny.

When it comes to Engine Options, both the Jimny and the Creta has petrol engine on offer. The Jimny has the 1.5-litre K15B Petrol engine that puts out 103.39 bhp and 134.2 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Manual and 4-speed Automatic Gearbox. The Creta on the other hand has the 1.5-litre petrol engine which puts out 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque mated to a 6-speed Manual and IVT (which is CVT Gearbox, only different name) Gearbox with a fuel efficiency of 17 kmpl

Hyundai Creta has one more engine other than the Petrol engine and that is the diesel engine. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 113 bhp and 250 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox. In return, this engine gives 23 km/l fuel efficiency.

When it comes to features, the Jimny misses out on Sunroof, Cooled glovebox, Wireless Charging, Ambient Lighting, rear AC vents, ventilated seats, bigger infotainment system, and big alloy wheels. The Creta misses out on headlamps washer. However, it’s worth noting that the Jimny is off-road focused, and therefore, it misses these features.

In Safety, the Creta misses out on Hill Descent Control and Brake Limited Slip Differential. The Jimny misses out on Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The Jimny is as safer as the Hyundai as Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System is not that important and it’s off-road based and will keep you safe when doing off-roading while the Creta is not meant for off-roading and therefore, possibly won’t be as safe as Jimny.

The Hyundai Creta currently is priced at Rs. 10.87 lakh for the base petrol ‘E’ variant and goes up to Rs. 19.20 lakh for the top ‘SX (O) Knight Edition DT Diesel Automatic’ variant where as the Maruti Jimny is expected to start at Rs. 10 lakhs.

As for the warranty, Hyundai is offering 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period the Creta and can be extended up to 7 years/1,00,000 km. For the Jimny, it has a warranty period of 2 years/40,000 km that can be extended to 5 years/1,00,000 km.

Maruti Jimny vs Hyundai Creta – Verdict

In the end, the decision to buy which SUV depends on you, however, if you want an SUV that can do off-roading, and for your off-road adventures, the Maruti Jimny is a better choice given the design from the outside just says to take it for off-roading, and is smaller than the Creta. However, the Creta both from the outside, and inside, is bigger, comfortable than Jimny, good fuel efficiency, more storage space, and powerful engine than the Jimny. Therefore, if you can afford the Hyundai Creta go for it otherwise, if you want an off-road SUV, just wait a little for the Jimny to launch.
