Maruti Suzuki has achieved a significant milestone which solidifies the carmaker’s position in India as the largest exporter!
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has reached a significant milestone, exporting over 3 million vehicles from its Indian manufacturing facilities to global markets. This achievement solidifies the company’s position as India’s largest automobile exporter and highlights its alignment with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, which promotes locally manufactured products worldwide.
A Fast-Growing Export Journey
Maruti Suzuki’s export journey began in 1986, with its first shipment of 500 vehicles to Hungary in 1987. It reached the 1 million export milestone in the 2012-13 fiscal year and doubled that figure by 2020-21. The latest milestone of 3 million units, achieved in just under four years, is the company’s fastest yet.
The landmark 3 millionth consignment, consisting of 1,053 vehicles, departed from Gujarat’s Pipavav port. This shipment included popular models such as the Fronx, Jimny, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire, S-Presso, and Ciaz. Recent additions like the Grand Vitara and Fronx have also joined the export list, with Fronx units even being shipped to Japan, Suzuki’s home market.
Global Reach and Export Growth
Today, Maruti Suzuki exports 17 models to nearly 100 countries, including key markets in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Countries like South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and Chile are major importers, with some models sold under the Suzuki badge.
Between April and October 2024, the company exported 181,444 vehicles, reflecting a 17.4% year-on-year growth. October 2024 marked a record-breaking month, with 33,168 units dispatched overseas, its highest-ever monthly export figure.
Commitment to Expansion
Maruti Suzuki’s exports have tripled over the past four years, driven by growing global demand for models like the Jimny, Fronx, Baleno, and S-Presso. The company aims to scale up its exports to 7.5 lakh units annually by the fiscal year 2030-31.
Hisashi Takeuchi, MD and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, remarked, “The 3 million cumulative exports milestone reflects India’s automobile manufacturing excellence and is a shining example of Brand India on the global stage. We thank the Government of India for instituting encouraging policies and enabling trade agreements with some markets augmenting export growth”
Maruti Suzuki’s dedication to innovation and its robust export portfolio continue to strengthen its presence as a global automotive leader, showcasing India’s manufacturing prowess to the world.
