Maruti Wagon R Facelift Spotted: India Launch Soon?
Last time in December 2023, we saw the facelift testing in India with no camouflage which made us think that Maruti could be launching it soon. But since that never happened, and the test mule wasn’t seen for months after that. Now the hatchback was spotted in India doing testing in India with changes looking the same as the last year spied test mule.
The rear profile of the facelift was only seen, showcasing styling revisions compared to the current model. The rear bumper features two vertical reflectors, the black strip above the rear number plate, replacing the chrome on the current model hints at potential styling changes. Maruti will slightly update the interior to introduce more features to enhance the WagonR’s appeal. Known for its practical interior space and cost-effectiveness, the WagonR is Maruti 3rd best-selling model of July 2024 with 16,191 unit sales.

It’s likely Maruti will retain the 1.0 L 3 Cylinder Petrol engine for lower trims, but for top-trims, the 1.2 L 3 Cylinder Petrol engine used in current version is from their K Series, “K12N”, could be replaced by the Z12C engine which powers the new Swift with same power and torque output, and transmission choices.
New Features may include new 7-inch SmartPlay Pro+ Infotainment System with Wireless Apple Carplay & Android Auto, Wireless Charging Pad, Rear AC vents, 6 Speakers, and new upholstery for the cabin.
It’s possible Maruti may end up launching the facelift in coming weeks or months.
Verdict
The reappearance of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R facelift test mule, first seen in December 2023, suggests a possible launch soon in the Indian market. While exterior updates focus on the rear design, the facelift is expected to bring refreshed interiors and enhanced features. The engine lineup is likely to remain the same, with potential upgrades for the top trim engine. As a best-seller for Maruti, the Wagon R’s facelift aims to reinforce its appeal with a more modern package while retaining its practicality and cost-effectiveness.
