Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce an affordable SUV, codenamed “Y43,” aimed at rivaling Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch, anticipated to hit the market between 2026 and 2027.

With a modest SUV lineup, Maruti Suzuki has made its mark with popular models like the Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Fronx. Currently, the company has two SUVs in the works, one of which is the budget-friendly “Y43,” positioned below the Brezza in their lineup. Drawing inspiration from successful models such as the Baleno and Brezza, this SUV is expected to showcase design elements reminiscent of these vehicles. Inside, the cabin design is likely to echo the aesthetics of other Maruti models like the Brezza, Baleno, and Fronx.

In terms of dimensions, the Y43 is expected to measure slightly over 3.8 meters in length, boasting a wheelbase of around 2.5 meters. It may roll on 15 or 16-inch alloy wheels. To maintain affordability, Maruti may opt for halogen headlamps and tail lamps for most variants, reserving LED treatment for the higher-end models.

Under the hood, the new SUV might be powered by the 1.2 L 3 Cylinder Z12E Petrol engine producing 81.80 BHP and 112 NM Torque mated to an 5 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox. Additionally, there could be a CNG variant for enhanced fuel efficiency.
While it may not match its competitors in terms of features, the Y43 could come equipped with amenities such as a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system supporting Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a wireless charging pad, analog instrument cluster complemented by a 3-inch TFT display, and possibly a sunroof among other features.
Tata has already announced a facelift update for the Punch in 2025, while Hyundai is expected to unveil the Exter facelift in 2026 alongside the EV version. Maruti Suzuki will face stiff competition in this segment, particularly with the Tata Punch dominating the SUV market.
