Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming affordable SUV, codenamed “Y43,” will compete with Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch, expected to launch between 2026 and 2027.
New Maruti-Exter Rival SUV: What we know so Far!
Although Maruti Suzuki’s SUV lineup is relatively limited, the brand has made a big impact with models like the Brezza, Grand Vitara, and Fronx. Currently, they have 2 SUVs in development with one being a new affordable SUV, codenamed “Y43,” to compete with rivals like the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. Positioned below the Brezza in their lineup, this SUV is slated for launch between 2026 and 2027.
Drawing inspiration from models like the Baleno and Brezza, the design of the new SUV may feature elements reminiscent of these vehicles. The cabin design is expected to resemble other Maruti Models, such as the Brezza, Baleno, Fronx, etc. The SUV is anticipated to measure just over 3.8 meters in length, with a wheelbase of around 2.5 meters, and may come equipped with 15 or 16-inch alloy wheels. To ensure its affordable, Maruti may opt for halogen headlamps and tail lamps for most trims, reserving LED treatment for the top variants.
In terms of engine options, the new SUV could be powered by the new 1.2 Litre Z12 petrol engine, offering both manual and automatic gearbox options. It may also be available in a CNG variant for improved fuel efficiency. While it may not match the feature offerings of competitors like the Exter or Punch, Maruti could equip the Y43 with features such as a 7-inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment system with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Automatic climate control, Rear AC vents, a Wireless Charging Pad, analog instrument cluster with a 3-inch TFT display, and possibly a sunroof among others.
Tata has already confirmed facelift update for the Punch coming in 2025 while Hyundai may launch the Exter facelift in 2026 with the EV version also coming in 2026. Maruti will have a tough time competing in the segment given Tata Punch is dominating the SUV segment heavily.
