Spanning 594 kilometers, the Ganga Expressway is set to become India’s third longest, linking the eastern and western parts of Uttar Pradesh. A recent high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the construction, with a targeted completion date of December 2024, strategically timed ahead of the upcoming Kumbh Festival in early 2025.
Managed under the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the Ganga Expressway will feature six lanes upon completion, becoming the state’s longest expressway. Notably, Uttar Pradesh already hosts four of India’s top 10 expressways, and the addition of the Ganga Expressway will further enhance its infrastructure network.
The expressway promises to significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj, slashing it from around 11 hours to just five. Designed for a speed of 120 kmph with a practical travel speed of 100 kmph, it will traverse more than 500 villages across 12 districts, featuring key infrastructure like a 3.50 km-long airstrip in Shahjahanpur and large bridges over the Ganga and Ramganga rivers.
