Mercedes Benz EQ Electric Brand for India Unveiled, First EV Launch in April

Mercedes Benz was the bestselling luxury brand in India managing to retail 13,789 units in the last year.Now the German carmakers have introduced the EQ brand in India, which is basically the electric sub brand of Mercedes Benz.

This brand was first showcased back at Paris Auto Show 2016 and the EQC SUV was also been unveiled there as well, which is also the first electric car by the new carmakers to enter in the nation.

Along with this, the automakers have also announced the launch of their first electric vehicle in India.The first electric car by Mercedes Benz will be launched in the country in April 2020 and will be unveiled as well by the brand at the Auto Expo 2020.

EQC will be based on GLC SUV currently sold by Mercedes Benz and derives a number of styling elements from GLC.As compared to GLC, it will get bigger front grille with single slat chrome.Chrome has been even used at the lower front end.A long LED strip connect both the headlamps and it looks quite modern and sophisticated.Rear section boasts very sleek and long connected LED tail lights.

Mercedes will bring 400 4MATIC variant of EQC in India.The EQC will be get twin electric motors with all wheel drive system capable of generating power and torque figures of 408 PS and 760 NM respectively. It draws power from 80kWh battery with a range of around 445-471 km on a full charge.The battery supports fast charging with 0-80% charging in under 40 minutes via a DC fast charger.Mercedes Benz will also install callbox charger at your parking lot.The SUV also does 0-100 mph in just 5.1 seconds

Top features of this electric SUV includes 20 inch turbine inspired alloys, digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, leather seat upholstery, cruise controls, Burmester sound setup, 360 degree camera, infotainment system, connected car technology among others.

Commenting on the introduction of the brand, Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, said, “As the inventors of the automobile and pioneers of luxury mobility in India, we are launching the brand ‘EQ’ that will establish luxury electric motoring in India. The ‘EQ’ brand is a key pillar of our ‘Sustainable Luxury’ objective and is the first dedicated luxury electric brand in India.”

He added, “We felt the time was right to introduce EQ brand in India and our first product for India will be the EQC EV. We are confident that EQ will lay a strong foundation for our electric ambition in India, which will see further expansion of our green cars portfolio and also for our future.”

EQC will be the first electric SUV by the brand for the country.After this, the carmaker will be introducing electric versions of its existing vehicles including EQV, EQA, EQB, EQE, EQS by 2022.

Mercedes Benz EQC will compete with other electric SUVs in this segment including Audi e-Tron, Jaguar I-Pace and Volvo XC40 electric which will be coming to India next year.EQC will be carrying introductory price of Rs. 1 Crores (Ex Showroom).
