MG Comet EV launched more affordable than the Tiago EV

MG Motors has launched the Comet EV in India and is priced it much lesser than the Tiago EV and offers 230km of maximum range.

MG Comet EV features a boxy design with full strip LED light bar running through the ORVMs and MG calls it Extended Horizon connecting lights. Below the light bar is the charging port which has illuminated MG logo on top of it. The Comet EV measures 2974mm in length, 1505mm in width, and 1640mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2010mm and has a turning radius of 4.2 meters.

MG Comet EV rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, has vertically mounted windows which cannot be lowered down for passengers at the rear seats and also has crooked window for the front driver and passenger. Moving to the rear side, it has the MG’s Extended Horizon Connecting Lights. The Comet EV is available in five colors – Starry Black, Candy White, and Aurora White with dual-tones of Apple Green and Starry Black, and Candy White with Starry Black, and also various graphics sorted into sticker styles.

Moving to the Inside, the Comet EV has white and grey interiors which will catch dust remains easily. It has dual 10.25-inch displays, one as infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, one as instrument cluster, and also has a rotary dial for drive modes. The front passenger seat gets one touch tumble and fold feature and rear seats are split in 50:50 ratio. The Comet EV has 55+ connected car tech with features such as turn-by-turn navigation with real-time traffic updates, music, weather updates, and more.

However, the Comet EV has manual HVAC controls. Other features include keyless entry, two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, push button start/stop, and three USB ports. In safety, it dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking camera with parking sensors, ISOFIX anchorages, and Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

The Comet EV is powered by a 17.3 kWh battery pack sourced from the Tata Autocomp, it produces 41.42 bhp and 110 Nm of torque and offers a maximum claimed range of 230 km. With a 3.3 kW charger, it can charge from 10 – 80% in five hours and from 0 – 100% in seven hours. The Comet EV has a top speed of 100 kmph.

MG Comet EV – Price and Rivals

The MG Comet EV has its own category and while it doesn’t directly rivals the Tata Tiago EV or Citroen eC3, but they’re the only closes competitors the Comet EV might see. MG has priced the Comet EV at on-road price of Rs. 8.31 lakh and has only one variant on offer. Bookings for the Comet EV will open on May 15th, 2023, and the deliveries will begin from next month as well.
