MG Motors ever since its entry in India in 2019 has been pretty successful with the Hector, ZS EV, Astor, Gloster, and the Comet EV. But now the brand is developing a new midsize platform for the global markets including India.
The new platform by MG supports various body styes and multiple powertrain options. It’ll give rise to a Hector-sized SUV, Innova-sized MPV, and a Honda Civic sized Sedan, available in Petrol, Strong Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, and Electric Options. These vehicles will initially debut in China this year and are expected to arrive in India between 2025 and 2027.

According to Autocar India, MG India is gearing up to deliver a significant pricing surprise with its upcoming electric vehicles (EVs) based on a fresh platform. Reports suggest that the midsize SUV, offering more interior space than the Hector, may debut with a starting price of approximately Rs 20 lakh. Additionally, rumors indicate that the all-electric MPV, positioned to rival the Innova, could hit the market at just Rs 25 lakh, while the EV sedan might be priced below Rs 20 lakh. These three EVs are expected to be the inaugural products manufactured at MG Motor’s new production facility near the existing Halol plant, for which the scouting process is currently underway. This new facility is slated to increase MG Motor’s capacity to over 3 lakh units, with the all-new midsize platform anticipated to contribute around 1 lakh units annually. Products based on this platform are forecasted to be on the roads between 2025 and 2027.Despite MG’s strong emphasis on its EV business, the company’s plans to offer strong hybrid and plug-in hybrid options signify its commitment to its ICE portfolio. This strategic move reflects MG’s recognition of the need for electrification to comply with future emissions regulations, particularly CAFE norms.
