Mahindra has been working on a new SUV to compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and so on. This new SUV will sit between the XUV300 and the XUV700 in position and would tons of new features, and performance which may prove to be game-changing for its rivals.
Following the XUV700’s successful launch, Mahindra took the tough decision to discontinue the XUV500 due to sales performance not meeting expectations. Temporarily shelving the model after the XUV700, spy shots from Chennai reveal a revamped XUV500 with a coupe roofline, signaling a comeback. Despite its previous 4.6-meter length, the spy shots suggest a reduction to around 4.3-4.4 meters. Positioned between the XUV300 and XUV700, it aims to challenge segment leader Hyundai Creta.

Before the SUV was discontinued, it was offered with Two Engine Options – 2.2 L Diesel and 2.2 L Turbo Petrol Engine with 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox. However, the upcoming XUV500 is built on the XUV300 platform for competitive pricing, and it’s expected to offer two engine options: a 1.5 L Diesel and a 1.5 L Turbo Petrol, both with 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox choices.
Feature-wise, anticipate ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, 2-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Cluster, a Powered Driver Seat, LED headlamps, Air Purifier, Wireless Charging Pad, and possibly a Sony sound system. Safety is a priority, with Mahindra planning to equip the new-gen XUV500 with a 360 Surround View Camera, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, ABS with EBD, Hill Descent Control, Hill Assist, 6 airbags, TPMS, Traction Modes, and potentially Level 1 ADAS.
Despite ongoing mysterious testing, the SUV is anticipated to be revealed in Late 2024, with an likely early 2025 launch. It is set to compete with rivals like New Hyundai Creta Facelift, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Citroen C3 Aircross, Updated MG Astor, VW Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq.
