Kia Motors is gearing up to unveil the next-generation Seltos, with a global premiere expected in the second half of 2025. Codenamed SP3 Proto, this highly anticipated compact SUV has been spotted testing for the first time on Indian roads. Since its launch in 2019, the Kia Seltos has become one of the brand’s most successful models, and the new iteration is set to elevate its game with revamped aesthetics, cutting-edge features, and hybrid powertrain options.
Spy shots of the second-gen Seltos reveal significant visual updates while retaining the boxy and rugged SUV profile. The front fascia will sport a bold, upright design inspired by Kia’s flagship Telluride SUV, featuring boxy LED headlights and a larger flat grille with vertical slats. This sophisticated look aligns the Seltos with Kia’s modern design language. The rear design adopts vertically elongated tail lamps inspired by the Kia EV5, extending from the rear windows to the bumper, giving the SUV a contemporary touch. Updated alloy wheels and sleek bumpers further enhance the SUV’s appeal, while slight increases in overall dimensions could translate to improved cabin and cargo space.
Inside, the second-gen Seltos is expected to feature a futuristic and luxurious cabin. Drawing inspiration from Kia’s electric models, like the EV3 and EV5, the SUV is likely to sport dual-tone seats, orange accents, redesigned headrests, and plush door trims. A two-spoke steering wheel is expected to replace the current three-spoke design, while ambient lighting could add a sophisticated charm to the cabin. The dashboard, likely to feature a layered design, may incorporate a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly a heads-up display (HUD). Premium materials and advanced features such as ventilated seats and wireless charging are expected to make their way into the new Seltos.
Kia will retain its current engine lineup for the new Seltos:
These engines will continue to be paired with versatile transmission options, including a 6-speed manual, CVT, torque converter, and 7-speed DCT. However, the highlight of the 2025 Seltos is the introduction of a 1.6L hybrid petrol engine, borrowed from the Hyundai Kona Hybrid. This setup could produce up to 141 bhp, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly and fuel-efficient vehicles. While reports suggest the possibility of e-AWD in global markets, the India-spec model might stick to conventional setups.
Kia plans to launch the second-generation Seltos in India by mid-2025, just two years after the mid-life facelift introduced in 2023. With more than 6 lakh units sold in India, the Seltos has established itself as a strong contender in the compact SUV segment, competing against models like the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor. The addition of hybrid powertrains, along with advanced features and design inspired by Kia’s EV and luxury SUV lineup, will likely result in a slight price increase. Nonetheless, the new Seltos is expected to remain a strong value proposition.Meanwhile, Kia India is also preparing to debut the all-new Syros SUV on December 19, 2024. Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Syros will further expand Kia’s lineup in India, offering petrol and diesel engine options.
The 2025 Kia Seltos promises to raise the bar in the compact SUV segment with its bold design updates, premium interiors, and hybrid powertrain options. As the competition intensifies, the next-gen Seltos is set to retain its strong foothold while catering to evolving customer preferences for fuel-efficient and feature-rich vehicles. With its Telluride-inspired styling and cutting-edge technology, the Seltos is poised to remain a top choice for SUV buyers in India and globally.
