This new Creta-rival will boast major redesign for the exterior and the interior while also having the possibility of introducing Hybrid Powertrain!
The Kia Seltos, one of the most popular compact SUVs in India, is gearing up for a major generational update. Recent spy shots from South Korea and India have revealed significant design changes and potential feature upgrades for the second-generation Seltos, expected to debut by late 2025.
This overhaul follows Kia’s strategy of continuous evolution, ensuring the Seltos remains competitive in the crowded SUV segment.
2025 Kia Seltos: Telluride-Inspired Design
The new spy images showcase a bold, upright front fascia inspired by Kia’s flagship Telluride SUV. The upcoming Seltos will feature boxy LED headlights, replacing the current angular design, and a larger flat grille with vertical slats, lending it a sporty yet sophisticated look.
At the rear, the SUV will adopt long, vertically elongated tail lamps influenced by the Kia EV5. These tail lights extend from the rear windows to the bumper, adding a contemporary touch. While the overall shape remains similar, the new model might grow slightly in length, potentially offering more cabin and cargo space. Updates also include newly designed alloy wheels.
Interior and Features
Inside, the second-generation Seltos is expected to draw inspiration from Kia’s upcoming Syros SUV. Likely upgrades include a 2-spoke steering wheel with an off-center Kia logo, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument screens, and a heads-up display (HUD) for enhanced safety. Plush materials, front and rear ventilated seats, and an overall premium appeal are expected to elevate the cabin experience.
Powertrain Options: Hybrid Addition on the Cards
The next-gen Seltos is set to retain the current trio of engines:
- 1.5L NA Petrol
- 1.5L Turbo Petrol
- 1.5L Turbo Diesel
These engines, paired with diverse transmission options like a 6-speed manual, CVT, torque converter, and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, ensure the Seltos remains versatile for different driving preferences. Additionally, a new 1.6L hybrid petrol engine from the Hyundai Kona Hybrid could be introduced, delivering 141 bhp, catering to the rising demand for fuel-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles.
Launch Timeline and Market Positioning
Kia aims to launch the second-generation Seltos in India by the second half of 2025, just two years after the mid-life facelift introduced in 2023. This rapid development reflects Kia’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.
As Kia readies its Syros SUV for a December 19 reveal, the buzz around its bold new design also adds to the anticipation for the brand’s future lineup. With the next-gen Seltos aligning its design cues with the Telluride and EV-inspired aesthetics, it is poised to strengthen its position as a top choice in the compact SUV market.
