New Honda City 2020 – Top 7 things you need to know

Honda City for the first time was launched in India back in 1998 and instantly it became the best seller.Throughout its life span it has got number of changes and a number of new models were launched as well.

Currently the 4th generation Honda City is running in India with BS 6 Petrol and BS 4 Diesel engine and we will get the 5th generation of the premium sedan which was recently unveiled in Thailand.

Here are the top 5 important things you need to know about New Honda City 2020.

1. Exterior

Honda City in its new generation gets completely updated exterior design.Upfront it gets thick front grille and sharp LED headlamps with LED DRLs.The sedan will continue to ride on 16 inch alloys while the new design of wheels looks stylish.Sharp cuts and creases runs on the bonnet and along the sides.

The rear section of the sedan is also updated with all new sleek and modern LED tail lamps.The new updated Honda City looks upmarket and modern.

2. Interior

A number of changes have been made to the cabin although the present generation City still looks luxurious.Changes in the cabin includes a much more sporty steering and is a flat bottomed unit as well.While the Thailand spec comes with analog instrument cluster, the India-spec will feature an all digital  instrument cluster.

The colour theme in the India-spec Honda City will be similar to the present City’s black and beige.The 7 inch infotainment system gets replaced by all new and bigger 8 inch infotainment system.AC Vents are also placed on the either sides of the infotainment system and are in vertical orientation.Also the touch panel for air conditioning unit gets replaced by knob system.Since we have got increase in overall dimensions, the space inside the cabin and the trunk capacity is also expected to increase. 

3. Dimensions

The current generation Honda City measures 4440 mm in length and has got a width of 1695 mm.The New Honda City 2020 will be 113 mm longer, 53 mm wider than the present generation premium sedan.However, the wheelbase will be reduced by 11 mm to 2589 mm.

4. Features 

Honda City has always been a feature loaded package.It offers features like push start stop button with smart keyless entry, automatic ac, electric sunroof, LED headlamps, 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system among others.With the update, the list of features will get even longer as more premium equipments will be offered in the sedan like all digital instrument cluster similar to Honda Civic, bigger 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with all the modern connectivity options and will also get connected car technology which these days most carmakers are providing in their new cars.

5. Engine Options

When for the first time Honda City was launched, it was offered with only petrol engine and only with the 4th gen City, we got the Diesel engine in Honda City.But with the launch of 5th gen Honda City, the sedan, like the New Honda Amaze will also get diesel cvt for the first time.Other engines will continue to be the same.

The 1.5 L I-VTEC petrol engine with 117 BHP @ 6600 RPM and 145 NM @ 4600 RPM of torque.It will get 6 speed manual instead of 5 speed manual and cvt automatic gearbox.The fuel efficiency currently rated at 17.4 kmpl and 18 kmpl respectively will go up by 1 to 2 kmpl thanks to mild hybrid technology.While the 1.5 L I-DTEC Diesel engine will also be available with same power and torque figures of 99 BHP and 200 NM.The Mileage of Diesel engine is expected to be around 26 to 27 kmpl.Transmission options for diesel variants includes 6 Speed manual and CVT.Both these engines will be BS VI compliant.

6. Price

The present generation Honda City in India is priced between Rs. 9.91 Lakhs for the SV Petrol base model and Rs. 14.31 Lakhs for the top end petrol ZX cvt model and the diesel variants are priced between Rs. 11.11 Lakhs and Rs. 14.21 Lakhs.The price is expected to go up by Rs. 10,000 for petrol trims and around Rs. 35,000 for the diesel variants.

7. Launch Date

New Honda City will be unveiled in India on March 16.In this month, a number of car launches have been scheduled since we have got the BS 6 deadline on April 1, 2020.The official bookings will also commence from the same date as well.While the official launch will take place in the month of April.
