Advantages of Twin-Cylinder CNG Kits
The twin-cylinder CNG kits, first popularized by Tata Motors, have quickly become the industry standard, surpassing the older single-cylinder kits. Traditional single-cylinder kits are bulky, occupying almost half the boot space both vertically and horizontally. In contrast, twin-cylinder kits are shorter in height, allowing them to be neatly tucked away and freeing up significant cargo space. This design also provides a cleaner, more visually appealing look and a flat boot floor by eliminating the loading lip.
Hyundai’s implementation of the Hy-CNG Duo is particularly noteworthy. As demonstrated in a walkaround video by Sushil Nawadkar, the two cylinders are positioned neatly under a tray, enhancing the vehicle’s practicality and aesthetics. The new design also includes a tyre mobility kit instead of a spare tyre, offering a compact and efficient solution for puncture repairs with a tyre inflator and sealant.
Engine and Performance
The Exter Hy-CNG Duo features two 30-litre CNG tanks in the boot and is powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is equipped with an integrated electronic control unit (ECU) that ensures seamless switching between CNG and petrol fuels. When running on CNG, the engine produces 68 bhp and 95.2 Nm of peak torque. While these figures are slightly lower than the 82 bhp and 113 Nm achieved on petrol, the CNG option provides an efficient and environmentally friendly alternative.
Conclusion
Hyundai continues to offer the older single-cylinder CNG Exter alongside the new Hy-CNG Duo. The Exter Hy-CNG Duo stands out for its improved luggage space, enhanced versatility, and elegant CNG mobility solution, all backed by an OEM warranty. This innovative model demonstrates Hyundai’s commitment to providing efficient and practical solutions for CNG vehicle buyers in India.
