All models are powered by a 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol bi-fuel engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, delivering up to 27.1 km/kg (ARAI tested). The twin cylinders hold up to 60L of water equivalent CNG. Unlike Tata Motors’ i-CNG vehicles, Hyundai hasn’t specified starting the engine on CNG, but it features an integrated electronic control unit for smooth transitions between petrol and CNG.
The twin-cylinder setup maximizes boot space, with neatly tucked away cylinders, making CNG a viable alternative to diesel. This innovation aims to boost Exter sales, positioning it against the Tata Punch i-CNG (starting at Rs 7.23 lakh, Ex-showroom). Hyundai plans to extend this technology to models like the Grand i10 NIOS and Aura in the future.
