New i20 2020 features upgrades in all the departments.Here are some of the important things you need to know about 2020 i20.

Dimensions

With the upgrade, i20 hatchback grows 5 mm in length, 16 mm in width while it is 24 mm shorter than present generation Elite i20.Wheelbase will also be enhanced in the 2020 Hyundai i20 as well by few millimetres.

The space inside the cabin, legroom for the rear seat passengers and the boot space will also increase.

Exterior

At the front, the projector headlamps gets replaced by sleeker and much more sharper LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs.

Unlike the current i20, the front cascading grille integrates with the headlamp unit.Also the fog lamp housing is triangular with projector fog lamps.

Coming to the side, the diamond cut alloys gets replaced by super striking alloys.Adequate amount of chrome has been used along with window belt line.

At the rear, it gets new connected sleek LED tail lamps and the rear windshield is also large.

Interior

Elite i20 gets dual tone black and beige interior but with the update, the fabrics will be improved while the dual tone interior scheme will still continue for 1.2 L petrol and new 1.5 L diesel while for 1.0 litre turbo petrol, all black sporty interior will be on offer.

Unlike the digital instrument cluster seen on international spec, India spec i20 will get similar instrument panel seen on the latest launch by the carmakers, Verna facelift.

Steering wheel unit is similar to that of Creta while the dash integrated infotainment setup will go higher and will be placed at the top of the dashboard unit.Some changes will be applied to the ac unit and door trim as well.

Features

No doubt the present generation Elite i20 is highly feature loaded but Tata Motors has made its entry into the hatchback segment with its Altroz sedan which is neck to neck in terms of features with the South Korean sporty premium hatchback.In 2020, the New i20 will come bundled with first in segment digital instrument cluster (similar to Verna), front footwell lighting, LED headlamps, tail lamps, air purifier, cruise controls.

While the international spec new i20 also boasts Bose sound system and 10.25 inch infotainment system, for Indian market, Hyundai may bring 8 inch infotainment system, the premium sound system by Bose and electric sunroof is also on cars.

Leather seat upholstery, steering, gear knob, wireless charging, cooled glovebox, auto folding ORVMs, tilt and telescopic steering unit are some of the top features of the current spec Hyundai Elite i20.

Safety & Platform

Safety equipment of Elite i20 includes 6 airbags, rear parking sensors with camera, rear defogger, rear wiper, push start button with remote keyless entry, height adjustable seatbelts, auto dimming IRVM.Some of the new features are Rain sensing wipers, projector headlamps.

Currently, the Elite i20 is made up of Strong body structure with adequate use of advanced and high strength steel but with the transition into new generation, the i20 will be based on all new platform which will be the modified version of K1 platform which also underpins Hyundai Venue.

Price

Hyundai India recently discontinued the 1.4 Diesel engine leaving the hatchback available in only 1.2 VTVT petrol engine with manual and amt gearbox with BS 6 compliance.

Present variant of Elite i20 1.2 petrol is available in Magna Plus, Sportz Plus, Sportz Plus Dual Tone and Asta (O).

The petrol BS 6 variants are priced between Rs. 6.50 L and Rs. 8.31 L.Here is expected price of New i20 2020:

The price won’t be increased for the base variants of 1.2 petrol in the new gen i20 while with the hatchback getting bigger and powerful 1.5 Diesel engine, cost will go higher for diesel trims by Rs. 25,000.

New i20 2020 will borrow engine options from Venue compact SUV.There will be 2 petrol engines and 1 Diesel engine on offer.

The 1.2 L MPI Petrol engine makes 82 BHP and 115 NM.Transmission options includes 5 speed manual.

The Diesel engine is a 1.5 litre U2 CRDi mill with output figures of 99 BHP and 240 NM.6 Speed manual gearbox will be available while it will be interesting to see whether Hyundai introduces torque converter automatic gearbox with the Hyundai i20.

Launch date

Earlier, new generation i20 was expected to be launched in India in June 2020 but due to coronavirus pandemic, the launch has been slightly delayed and the updated hatchback is expected to be launched in the Indian market in August this year.

The official bookings are expected to be started in india for the updated Hyundai i20 in the last week of July.

When launched in India, New Hyundai i20 will compete with the likes of Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo.
