Kia has been spied in Korea testing it’s new electric SUV known as the Clavis EV. It’s likely it won’t launch alongside the ICE version in India but surely launch in 2025 compete with the likes of Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, etc. even though it won’t have a direct rival.
Earlier this year we’ve seen the Clavis testing in India, but now we see the EV version undergoing tests in Korea. On first look, both looks almost identical; even the alloy wheels is the same. The EV version boasts vertically stacked headlamps, LED DRLs, a sculpted bonnet, flush-type door handles, and functional roof rails. The SUV’s rear profile features EV9-like tail-lamps which will be connected by a light bar.
While two different alloy wheel designs have been seen for the ICE and EV variants, this setup may undergo changes in the production model. Test mules in India showcase quad-pattern alloy wheels sans rear disc brakes or tri-pattern designs with rear disc brakes. To distinguish between ICE and EV variants, Kia may introduce subtle adjustments to the front and rear, alongside EV-specific badging across exterior and interior elements. Unique color options and interior themes could further accentuate the distinct profiles of both versions.
Other than that, Kia Clavis will sport features such as 360 Surround View Camera, ADAS Level 2, Panoramic Sunroof, Ventilated Front Seats, Dual 10.25-inch Displays – one for digital cluster and for infotainment; Wireless Charging Pad, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, 6 Airbags, Hill Descent Control, and much more.
As for the powertrain, we expect Kia to equip the Clavis EV with 35 – 40 kWh battery pack which may give around 400 – 450 KMs on a single charge. It may end up getting 7.2 kW AC Charger to charge the EV at home or at charging stations.
Kia is expected to debut the Clavis ICE later this year with launch likely by the end of 2024 or in first quarter of 2025. Although it’s possible they may showcase the EV alongside the ICE version but launch it way later in 2025.
