A camouflaged SUV has been spotted undergoing testing in India. The vehicle is the Kia Syros, which is expected to make its global debut by the end of this month or in December.
The Kia Syros takes a unique approach to design, blending elements from both the EV9 electric SUV and the Carnival limousine, offering an unprecedented look in the Indian SUV segment. With its distinct shape and futuristic aesthetics, the Syros is set to redefine SUV design in India. The SUV’s front profile features a three-element vertical LED headlight setup with integrated DRLs, inspired by the bold design of the EV9. The upright front windshield and chunky door elements around the B-pillars further add to the vehicle’s rugged appeal, complemented by L-shaped LED tail lights at the rear.
Unlike traditional SUVs in the market, the Kia Syros will sport an RV-like design, with a flat roof, flush-style door handles, and a boxy, yet stylish side profile. The rear features a flat boot lid with L-shaped tail light signatures that are positioned higher on the boot, adding a touch of uniqueness to its silhouette. Additionally, the Kia Syros will be equipped with roof rails, which may be either functional or purely aesthetic, depending on the variant.
The SUV will also feature larger windows, offering a spacious and airy cabin. Geometrically shaped alloy wheels, roof rails, and innovative body creases contribute to its modern, cutting-edge design, making the Kia Syros a standout in its segment.
The Kia Syros is poised to showcase the brand’s dedication to premium interiors and advanced technology. Inside, the SUV is expected to feature a twin-screen layout paired with a multifunction, flat-bottom two-spoke steering wheel—a first for Kia in India. The dashboard will host cutting-edge tech, including seamless smartphone connectivity, a 360-degree camera system, automatic wipers, an electric sunroof, and a high-quality audio setup.
These features are designed to appeal to tech-savvy buyers, delivering a blend of convenience, entertainment, and an engaging driving experience for all passengers.
The Kia Syros is anticipated to come with both petrol and electric powertrain options, offering versatility for a wide range of buyers.
The petrol lineup is expected to include a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque, alongside a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Transmission options for the petrol variants will include a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the diesel models will offer a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Additionally, a naturally aspirated petrol engine may be available, potentially featuring either the 1.5-litre unit from the Seltos or the 1.2-litre engine from the Sonet.
The electric variant will reflect Kia’s commitment to sustainability, incorporating advanced technology to cater to India’s growing EV market. While detailed specifications remain under wraps, the Syros EV is expected to deliver a compelling blend of performance, efficiency, and eco-friendliness.
The Kia Syros is set to position itself between the Kia Sonet and Kia Seltos in both size and pricing, offering a premium SUV experience at a competitive price. Designed as a more upscale alternative to the Sonet, the Syros combines high-end features with practicality, making it an ideal choice for modern families seeking versatility and sophistication.
