A new SUV has been spotted undergoing testing in Korea what appears to be an electric SUV completely camouflaged.
A new electric SUV has been spotted in Korea completely camouflaged. This SUV is from Kia and one may thing it could be the Seltos EV, but no, it’s actually, Kia’s crossover SUV, EV2 which is expected to make global debut sometime in 2025.
Kia EV2: Design
The Kia EV2, as seen in recent spy shots, showcases a compact and boxy profile, aimed at providing a modern yet rugged design. Key styling elements include vertically stacked headlights, a squared-off bonnet, and a flat front fascia. It look reminiscent to another test model spotted in India, rumored to be either the Kia Clavis or Syros.
The EV2’s charging port is placed at the front, following the layout seen in the EV3. This suggests a likely front-wheel-drive setup on Kia’s e-GMP platform. The overall design draws inspiration from Kia’s flagship EV9, incorporating elements from the EV3 for a cohesive family resemblance.
From the side, the EV2 sports stylish, dual-tone alloy wheels, dual-tone ORVMs with integrated turn signals, and thick body cladding accentuating the wheel arches. Additional highlights include a slightly sloping roofline towards the rear, roof rails, a blacked-out B-pillar, and traditional door handles. At the rear, sharp tail lamps and high-mounted brake lights give the EV2 a unique presence.
Kia EV2: Powertrain
The Kia EV2 may offer varied battery pack options, with recent reports suggesting a 42 kWh LFP battery and a 62 kWh NMC battery. This setup could give the EV2 an estimated range of 350 km and 500 km range respectively.
Like Kia’s other electric models, the EV2 is expected to support fast charging, allowing users to charge from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes when using a public DC fast charger. With a high-powered electric motor, similar to the EV3’s 150 kW unit, the EV2 will likely offer swift acceleration.
The EV2 may also come with advanced features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging, enabling it to function as a mobile power bank. This feature would allow users to charge devices such as laptops, coffee makers, and small appliances directly from the car’s battery. While it may lack 800V fast-charging tech, the EV2 aims to be an efficient, spacious EV, with a production-ready concept anticipated in early 2025 and launch by 2026.
Kia EV2: Is it Coming to India?
Well, the short answer is No, even though Kia has trademarked the nameplate from EV1 to EV9. We’ll instead get the Kia Clavis or Syros in EV form which has been spotted multiple times in India, but moreover, Kia has started teasing the SUV with debut expected in December 2024. Although in future it’s possible Kia may evaluate its option and bring the EV2 in some capacity to India.
