Ola Electric has introduced its first business-focused electric scooter lineup, the Ola Gig, designed for B2B applications. Priced at an introductory Rs 39,999 for the base Gig model and Rs 49,999 for the more powerful Gig+, these scooters aim to provide cost-effective, versatile solutions for commercial use. Deliveries are set to commence in April 2025.
The Ola Gig scooters feature a utilitarian design with a single, large seat and an integrated rear carrier, ideal for cargo transport. Both variants come with drum brakes, a telescopic front fork, and app-based access for starting the vehicle.
The scooters also support Ola’s PowerPod, which allows the battery to double as a home inverter. The Gig series’ battery system is inspired by the S1 Z, another recently announced Ola model.
The Ola Gig is set to compete with popular shared mobility scooters like Yulu, commonly seen in urban areas. The Gig+ offers enhanced speed and range for heavier commercial applications, expanding its appeal for various B2B needs.
While Ola Electric has made headlines with its affordable scooters, it has faced scrutiny over customer service issues. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) previously investigated the company for service deficiencies, though Ola claims to have resolved 99.1% of the 10,644 complaints filed. Additionally, Ola recently laid off 500 employees as part of a restructuring effort to improve profitability.
Despite these challenges, Ola is optimistic about its new offerings. CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced the Gig and S1 Z models on social media, emphasizing their affordability and innovation. With reservations already open, Ola aims to solidify its position as a leader in India’s growing electric two-wheeler market.
