The Mahindra BE.05 features a bold, modern exterior that aligns with Mahindra’s futuristic EV design language. The front is dominated by C-shaped LED DRLs, split LED headlamps, and large air dams for a commanding road presence. Squared-off wheel arches and large wheels give the SUV a robust, muscular stance. Adding to its sleek profile are flush-fitting door handles, A-pillar-mounted ORVMs, and connected LED taillamps. A split rear spoiler enhances the sporty aesthetics.
Inside, the BE.05 boasts an all-black cabin with silver accents, providing a premium and sophisticated feel. The cockpit-like ambiance is enhanced by a floating center console with storage beneath, a tall gear lever, and a rotary infotainment dial. The twin-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated BE logo, along with touch-capacitive controls, adds a futuristic vibe. The dashboard features a twin-display setup, while the frameless IRVM and unique pull straps on the doors offer a blend of innovation and luxury. Grey fabric upholstery enhances the overall comfort of the cabin.
The BE.05 when it launches will have the following dimensions –
Length | 4370 mm |
Width | 1900 mm |
Height | 1653 mm |
Wheelbase | 2775 mm |
Ground Clearance | 205 mm |
Mahindra has been in discussions with Volkswagen to utilize the German automaker’s high-performance APP 550 electric motor, which produces 282 bhp and 535 Nm of torque. However, it remains uncertain if this motor will be available at the BE.05’s launch or introduced at a later stage. Initially at launch, the Mahindra BE.05 will feature a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Valeo motor rated at 170kW (227.8 bhp) and 380Nm, as revealed in August 2023.
The BE.05 will offer two battery options: a larger 79kWh pack and a smaller 60kWh pack. The 79kWh battery is expected to deliver a range of approximately 450km under the WLTP cycle. A standout feature of the BE.05 is its ultra-fast charging capability, supported by the INGLO platform. With a fast DC charger offering at least 175kW, the 79kWh battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
While frequent full charges can degrade battery life, Mahindra has equipped the BE.05 with a battery management system that includes a “charging limit” feature. This allows users to preset a charging limit, ensuring the battery stops charging when it reaches the desired State of Charge (SOC). Additionally, the BE.05 will offer five levels of regenerative braking, with the most powerful option being One Pedal Drive.
The Mahindra BE.05 will be loaded with advanced technology and convenience features. These include Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a panoramic sunroof. The twin 12.3-inch displays serve the infotainment system and digital cluster, while front ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and powered front seats offer comfort. Other safety features will include an electric parking brake with auto-hold, hill start assist, disc brakes for all wheels, hill descent control, and 7 airbags for enhanced safety.
The Mahindra BE.05 appears to be a game-changer in India’s electric SUV segment, combining bold design with cutting-edge technology. Its sleek exterior and modern features, like C-shaped DRLs and flush door handles, set it apart visually, while the premium all-black interior and twin-display setup enhance the driving experience. With two battery options, ultra-fast charging, and a robust powertrain, it promises strong performance and practicality. The inclusion of advanced features like Level 2 ADAS, regenerative braking, and comprehensive safety elements further boosts its appeal, making it an exciting entrant for 2025.
