MG’s upcoming electric MPV, based on the Wuling Cloud EV sold in Indonesia, is expected to hit the road within a year. It will cater to families and the fleet segment, offering three rows of seating in a vehicle approximately 4.3 meters long with a wheelbase of 2,700mm. This MPV aims to fill a gap in MG’s portfolio and target the Rs 15 lakh price range, a growing segment in the market. Additionally, MG plans to introduce a rugged 5-door SUV similar to the Maruti Jimny, based on the Baojun Yep Plus SUV.

Currently holding a 1% market share in India, MG sells 5,000 units monthly, with EVs contributing 10-20% of total sales. The company anticipates EVs to constitute nearly 50% of sales in the future, with considerations for local battery assembly at its Halol factory and expansion of production capacity to over 3 lakh units annually.In line with its long-term strategy, MG is focused on Indianization across various aspects, including ownership, manufacturing, and supply chain localization. With the recent strategic JV between SAIC and JSW, MG aims to enhance local sourcing, charging infrastructure, and introduce a broader range of vehicles with a focus on green mobility. JSW will hold a 35% stake in the Indian JV, while SAIC will provide technology support.The partnership with JSW signifies MG’s commitment to the Indian market, with further plans expected to be unveiled soon.
