New Design: Sportier and More Refined
The 2025 MG Astor facelift showcases a significant evolution in its design, adopting the brand’s latest styling language seen in models like the new MG3 and MG HS. The front fascia has undergone a complete makeover, featuring a bold blacked-out mesh grille flanked by redesigned LED headlights, giving the SUV a more aggressive and modern appearance. The front bumper has been reprofiled with new air intakes, adding to its sporty appeal.
While the silhouette and side profile remain largely unchanged, the Astor now sits on newly designed alloy wheels that enhance its overall stance. At the rear, the SUV receives updated taillights and a revised bumper, completing its fresh new look. These design upgrades not only boost the Astor’s visual appeal but also align it with the contemporary trends in the global SUV market.
Powertrain: Introducing the Hybrid+ System
Under the hood, the 2025 MG Astor introduces a new self-charging hybrid propulsion system (HEV). This strong hybrid setup pairs an Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an electric motor, drawing energy from a 1.83 kWh NCM lithium-ion battery. This powertrain allows the Astor to operate in pure electric mode for short distances, reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency. The hybrid system is coupled with a front-wheel drive configuration and a unique 3-speed automatic transmission, a setup already used in the MG3 hatchback.
In terms of environmental impact, the new hybrid powertrain has earned the ECO environmental badge from Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), signifying its lower emissions compared to the current petrol-only models. This makes the Astor Hybrid+ not just a performance upgrade but also a greener choice for eco-conscious buyers.
Features: Enhanced Comfort and Technology
MG has made significant upgrades to the Astor’s interior as well. Although full details haven’t been revealed, the company has confirmed that the new hybrid variant will feature high-quality materials throughout the cabin. The spacious interiors will continue to offer the comfort and practicality that the Astor is known for, now enhanced with modern technology.
Key interior features include a dual-screen setup for the infotainment and instrument panel, power-adjustable front seats, and a 360° camera system for easier manoeuvrability. The SUV also supports wireless charging and a keyless access and start system, adding to the convenience factor. Furthermore, MG has updated the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) kit with new features, making the Astor Hybrid+ safer and more reliable than ever.
Is it Launching in India?
The Astor is due for a mid-life facelift update, given it first launched in late 2021. With the company unveiling the Astor Facelift in Spain, the update is expected to make its way to India sometime in 2025. This timing aligns with the rising demand for hybrid vehicles, making it an opportune moment to capitalize on this trend before the segment becomes crowded with other hybrid models.
