So, out of nowhere, Jaguar & Land Rover (JLR) has decided to import CKD (Completely Knocked Down) units of its flagship SUVs, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India to reduce taxes which will result in lower price.
Land Rover’s Range Rover will now be locally assembled at JLR’s Chakan manufacturing facility near Pune using CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits. This development not only applies to the full-size Range Rover but also extends to the smaller Range Rover Sport.

As a result of this local assembly, the price of the full-size Land Rover Range Rover LWD Autobiography priced at Rs. 3.16 Crore will drop by up to Rs. 56 lakh taking it down to Rs. 2.60 Crore, while the Range Rover Sport Dynamic priced at Rs. 1.69 Crore will see a reduction of Rs. 29 lakh taking it down to Rs. 1.40 Crore. With this change, the flagship Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will join the Range Rover Velar and Range Rover Evoque in JLR’s portfolio of locally assembled vehicles.Additionally, the Jaguar F-Pace is another notable SUV that JLR assembles locally. It’s worth noting, not all variants of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are included in the CKD route. For the full-size Range Rover, only the 3.0L Petrol LWB Autobiography and the 3.0L Diesel LWB HSE variants will be assembled locally. Regarding the Range Rover Sport, JLR will only locally assemble the 3.0L Petrol Dynamic SE and 3.0L Diesel Dynamic SE variants. The remaining variants for both the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will continue to be imported as CBUs (Completely Built Units) from the company’s Solihull facility in the UK.
