In the past few months, with the launch of updated Renault Kwid and a new model in the form of Renault Triber, the French car makers have gained up their speed.But there is no stopping here as the carmakers have officially confirmed for the introduction of Renault new compact SUV, codenamed HBC, which is likely to be called Kiger.
The upcoming Renault Kiger compact SUV has been spied testing with full camouflage.Some of the exterior elements are visible and is appears to be quite bolder looking SUV.The styling of the SUV will be inspired from Kwid facelift which has got a good response in the market.
Upfront, it will feature split type headlamps where the daytime running lamps would be positioned above the headlamp unit which will be projector lights.Also the front radiator grille will be in V shape.The rear section of the compact SUV looks quite interesting as it gets a raked windshield.The tail lamps gets LED element.Also, Kiger will be riding on 16 inch alloys.
Under the hood, it will get 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine capable of producing 99 BHP of power and 160 NM of maximum torque.This engine is basically a downsized version of 1.3 litre turbo petrol engine used in a number of Renault cars in foreign markets.
Renault Triber which uses the 1.0 litre petrol unit will be the first one to get this turbo engine and afterwards Kiger will get this motor under the hood.Since Triber will get automatic transmission option, Renault is likely to provide the same in its upcoming compact SUV as well.Renault won’t be offering 1.5 litre K9K diesel unit on Kiger as Renault is not planning to upgrade it to BS-VI standards.
Renault HBC will be showcased at Auto Expo 2020 and the launch of this new compact SUV would take place between May and July 2020.In terms of pricing, it will undercut all its rivals and is expected get a introductory price tag of Rs. 5.5 Lakh (Ex Showroom).
With the launch of Renault Kiger, the competition is likely to get much more intense as not only one new rival but number of new car makers including Skoda, Volkswagen and Toyota would be entering in this segment.When launched, Renault Kiger will lock horns with Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Ford Ecosport and Tata Nexon.
