Using a garden hose, individuals are shown spraying water on the fire. One man repeatedly wets a cloth and tries to cover the burning engine, but their efforts prove ineffective. The video then captures the man with the hose passing it to someone else while he attends to the fuel tank area, which is already on fire. This action leads to a sudden explosion in the fuel tank, creating a massive fireball.
The explosion engulfs several bystanders in flames, causing widespread panic. One man is seen completely covered in fire, struggling and eventually sitting down. Another person rushes to help him with a wet cloth, while others in the background also run around engulfed in flames. Some attempt to extinguish the fire by hitting the victims with wet fabrics.
Reports indicate that over 10 individuals, including a police officer, sustained severe injuries. The injured were promptly taken to Princess Esra Hospital for treatment. Fortunately, there have been no reports of fatalities.
Extinguishing petrol or diesel fires with water is dangerous because these fuels are lighter than water, causing the burning fuel to spread. Water can also cause splashing, further spreading the fire. Moreover, water doesn’t cool the fire effectively and can increase the production of flammable vapors. Using water can exacerbate the situation, making the fire more difficult to control and potentially more hazardous. Instead, appropriate fire extinguishers, such as foam or dry chemical types, should be used.
