Customers can choose between two powertrains. The first is a L15D 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four petrol engine producing 118 PS (117 hp) and 142 Nm of torque, paired with a CVT driving the front wheels, with an AWD option. The second is Honda’s e:HEV dual-motor system, featuring a LEB 1.5-liter NA inline-four petrol engine delivering 106 PS (105 hp) and 127 Nm, primarily generating power for a 48-Ah lithium-ion battery. This battery powers a front-mounted electric motor rated at 123 PS (121 hp) and 253 Nm. Hybrid variants also offer AWD with an additional electric motor for the rear wheels. Fuel consumption is rated at 25 km/l for hybrids and 16.2 km/l for petrol variants.
The new Freed is slightly larger, measuring 4,310 mm long, 1,695-1,720 mm wide, and 1,755-1,780 mm tall, with a 2,740 mm wheelbase. The design is blockier, inspired by the second-generation Crossroad, featuring a flatter bonnet, upright face, trapezoidal headlamps, and a closed-off grille. The Crosstar variant adds a textured grille, wider air intakes, and black plastic body cladding with a faux skid plate.
Inside, the Freed has a redesigned dashboard, a digital display, and a two-spoke steering wheel. The central infotainment screen is wrapped in water and oil-resistant fabric, and air vents are placed underneath it. Controls are positioned high for easy access. The Air version offers six- or seven-seat configurations, while the Crosstar offers five or six seats. Rear seats can be folded for additional space.
Both versions feature a fabric-covered trim piece around the infotainment screen, with an additional storage compartment on the passenger side. The interior design is practical, catering to families with features like a novel shelf with storage cubbies.
