Skoda Superb – What you should know!

Skoda had already teased the fourth-gen of the Superb ahead of the global reveal but whenever it launches overseas, it’ll take some time to launch in India. Skoda India Brand Director, Petr Solc, said the next generation of the Superb will be developed and used in Europe and India Launch is in works. While the next-gen Superb is set to be launch in Autumn season globally, Skoda is planning to launch the current generation Superb in India. Skoda India is also looking for best options to launch the next-generation of Superb in India post-launch.

On the topic of strong-hybrid, Brand Director of Skoda India, Petr Solc, said that the strong-hybrids could be part of a solution but Skoda is focused towards electric vehicle market, and wants to try it out first. Other than this, the Octavia can also return to India alongside the Superb as both the cars has the same engine and both had to exit due to the BS6 Phase 2 norms. Before finally getting discontinued, the Octavia showed strong numbers in sales. With that being said, Skoda India is focused or trying out the Superb in India first to get the expected feedback; only then there is the possibility of the Octavia launch.

There is one more thing that’s worth mentioning, there is a possibility that the Octavia vRS could also make a comeback. The Octavia vRS had to be discontinued as well and whatever inventory it had left, all got sold like fire! Brand Director of Skoda India, Petr Solc, said there is a possibility that the newer version will make a comeback in limited units and with special focus.

The Octavia vRS was powered by the 2.0-litre petrol engine that pumps out 241 bhp and 370 Nm of torque and mated to a 7-speed DCT Gearbox. The Octavia RS iV makes the same 241 bhp but uses a small 1.4-litre turbo-charged petrol engine that had an e-motor with it. The 1.4-litre TSI engine produced 147.94 bhp and 250 Nm without the e-motor where as it gets additional power from the 13 kWh battery.

Skoda is focused to launch electric vehicles from 2023 to 2026 to build a large EVs portfolio.
