Skoda and Volkswagen have announced a voluntary recall of 52 units of their popular models – Taigun, Virtus, Kushaq, and Slavia—due to a potential welding defect in the track control arm. Affected Models and Manufacturing Period
The vehicles impacted include 38 units of the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus and 14 units of the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. These vehicles were manufactured between November 29, 2023, and January 20, 2024 at the Chakan facility in Pune, where all four models are produced as part of Skoda-Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy.
Reason for the Recall: Welding Defect on Track Control Arm
The recall stems from a suspicion that the weld seam on the track control arm may not have been properly executed during the welding process at the component supplier’s end. If this part fails, it could lead to a sudden loss of vehicle stability and control during critical driving situations, potentially causing accidents without prior warning.
According to the recall listing, “In unavoidable circumstances, failure of the affected component can result in accidents, injuring vehicle occupants and creating third-party liabilities.”
