Skoda is set to launch the next-generation Kodiaq for the Indian Market later this year with ground-breaking technology, features, and off-road capabilities that has Fortuner scared.
Next-Gen 2024 Skoda Kodiaq: What you need to know!
Skoda globally unveiled the Kodiaq last year and it’s the first production car that is based on the “Modern Solid” philosophy sharing elements with the 2022’s Vision 7S Concept for a much more rugged look than the outgoing version in India. From the outside, the exterior changes include squared-off wheel arches, hexagonal grille, heavily sculpted bonnet, and an option to add LED Light strip running across the front end bringing it in line with the Enyaq iV.

The dimensions of the SUV has increased by 61 MM in length, and sports 2791 MM wheelbase which enables passengers the sit freely while getting extra space for boot. Then there is the optional third row with 920 MM headroom, and with all the three rows up, you’re looking at 340 Litres Boot Space which has grown by 70 Litres. With the third-row folded, you get around 915 Litres of Boot space which is big enough to almost pack your entire house.
Jumping inside, the cockpit area looks very similar to the upcoming next-gen Superb like there is a free-standing 10-inch Digital Instrument Cluster, Optional Heads-up Display (HUD), new free-standing infotainment system with option between 10 or 13-inch; new smart rotary knobs in front of the centre console as introduction of Skoda’s clean look. The three smart knobs sport a 32 MM display used to adjust the cabin’s climate control while the one in the middle can be configured to control the volume of infotainment, driving modes, map zoom, or air conditioning. The interiors gets four options of design selection – Loft, Lounge, and two-variations of sustainable “Ecosuite.”
Regarding Powertrains, the next-gen Kodiaq gets the 1.5 L 4 Cylinder Plug-in Hybrid Petrol Engine with an electric motor delivers 201.20 BHP and 350 NM of torque with EV only claimed range of more than 100 KMs from the 25.7 kWh battery pack under the boot and has 50 kW DC charging speed capability, and has 4×2 Drive-type. Then there is the 1.5 L Petrol Engine with a 48V mild-hybrid technology delivering 147.94 BHP and 250 NM of torque with 4×2 Drive-Type.
The Kodiaq gets 3 Pure ICE Powertrains – 2 2.0 L Turbo Diesel producing 147.94 BHP and 360 NM of torque with 4×2 Drive-type, and then another 2.0 L Turbo Diesel which now delivers 190.36 BHP and 400 NM of torque for the 4×4 Drive-type. Lastly, the SUV gets 1 2.0 L Turbo Petrol Engine for the 4×4 Drive delivering 201.20 BHP & 320 NM of torque. It’s worth noting that DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) is standard across all these options. Skoda may not offer the plug-in and mild-hybrids powertrain for the Indian Market because it might not sell well due to costing reasons.
As standard, the new model boasts an extensive array of equipment typically offered as optional features in lower trim levels. Notably, it includes the Kodiaq’s latest Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) suspension control package. This innovative system incorporates twin-valve dampers, enhancing both the vehicle’s dynamics and refinement. With a wide range of available suspension modes, drivers can tailor their driving experience to suit their preferences, ensuring optimal comfort and performance on various road conditions.
Skoda is definitely eye-ing to bring this model in India but most likely it’ll launch near the end of 2024 with possibly no hybrids and just Pure ICE Engines. We know Toyota is readying the Fortuner with Hybrid tech to stay competitive in the segment, who knows what surprise move Skoda will pull here to take the Fortuner by surprise since its the leader of the segment. The next-generation Skoda Kodiaq upon its launch will compete with Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridian, and Volkswagen Tiguan.
