If it launches, Tata Nexon will become the first sub compact SUV to have DCT Transmission with a 1.5 L Diesel Engine.
In recent months, the Tata Nexon’s sales have dipped slightly compared to its main rival, the Maruti Brezza. To address this, Tata Motors is introducing a new transmission option for the Nexon. But there’s another question on everyone’s mind: Will Tata also update the Nexon with a panoramic sunroof?

Tata Nexon Diesel DCA Trim Leaked: What’s New?
Despite the stringent BS6 emission norms pushing many automakers to switch to cleaner fuels like petrol and CNG, diesel engines continue to thrive in India, favored by many consumers. Tata Motors recently announced on August 7th that the upcoming Tata Curvv (ICE), launching on September 2nd, will feature a Dual-Clutch Automatic (DCA) transmission.
Now, it appears that Tata has extended this transmission offering to the Nexon as well, at least according to their official website. When booking the Nexon SUV with the diesel engine, you can now select a 7-speed DCA transmission. This option seems to be exclusive to the top-spec Fearless+ S variant, though other variants like Pure and Creative personas may eventually receive this option, as indicated by the greyed-out selection on the site.
This introduction makes the Tata Nexon the first mainstream SUV in India to offer a dual-clutch transmission with a diesel engine, and the first sub-compact SUV to feature this option.
Panoramic Sunroof?
A few days after the launch of the Mahindra XUV300, the Tata Nexon was spotted at a dealership with a panoramic sunroof, leading to speculation that it would be available soon. However, the answer is no; the Nexon will not receive a panoramic sunroof with this update. The changes are focused on introducing the new DCA transmission with the 1.5L diesel engine, which delivers 114 BHP and 260 NM of torque, available with both 6-speed manual (MT) and automatic (AT) transmissions.
The other engine option, a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol, delivers 118 BHP and 170 NM of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual (MT), 6-speed manual (MT) / automatic (AT), and 7-speed DCA transmission.
Our Review
With the introduction of the new DCA transmission, Tata Motors is making a strategic move to boost the Nexon’s appeal, especially among diesel enthusiasts who seek a more refined driving experience. While the lack of a panoramic sunroof may disappoint some, the Nexon remains a strong contender in the sub-compact SUV segment, now with an even broader range of transmission choices to cater to diverse customer preferences.
