Tata Motors unveiled the Nexon Facelift on September 1st and loaded it with so many features that its rivals will have a hard time competing against. So, we thought of comparing the Nexon Facelift against its rivals to see where does the Nexon stand and how it competes!

Well, as you can see in Dimensions, the Nexon now shares the same length with Brezza, Venue, Sonet, and XUV300. The shortest length in the segment is by Kiger of 3991 MM. In width, the XUV300 is the widest SUV in the segment with 1821 MM width while Nexon stands at 1804 MM width being narrower by 17 MM. The tallest SUV in the segment is the Maruti Brezza with 1685 MM height while the Nexon height is 1620 MM being shorter by 65 MM.

The longest wheelbase in the segment is the XUV300 with 2600 MM while the Nexon features 2498 MM wheelbase, and Brezza, Venue, Sonet, Kiger, and Magnite features 2500 MM wheelbase. The Nexon features the highest ground clearance of 208 MM where as the lowest is from the XUV300 with 180 MM while the Kiger, Sonet, and Magnite features 205 MM ground clearance. In Boot Space, the Kiger is the biggest boot in the segment with 405 L while the Nexon features 382 L boot space making it smaller by 23 L. Lastly, the Nexon features 44 L Fuel Tank where as the Venue, Sonet, and Brezza features 45 L Fuel Tank, and the Kiger and Magnite has 40 L Fuel Tank.

In Engine Options, except for Maruti Brezza, all of the Nexon rivals comes with turbo petrol engine. The Tata Nexon Facelift comes with 1.2 L 3 Cylinder Turbo Petrol engine that generates 118.27 BHP and 170 NM of torque paired to 4 gearboxes – 5 Speed Manual, 6 Speed Manual and Automatic, and 7 Speed DCT Gearbox. The Hyundai Venue recently got a new 1.0 L 3 Cylinder Turbo Petrol engine that produces 120 BHP and 172 NM of torque paired to 6 Speed Manual and 7 Speed DCT Gearbox.
Then there is the Mahindra XUV300 with 1.2 L 3 Cylinder Turbo Petrol powertrain producing 108.62 BHP and 200 NM of torque paired to 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox. The Nissan Magnite is powered by the 1.0 L 3 Cylinder Turbo Petrol producing 98.63 BHP and 152 NM for CVT Gearbox and 160 NM for 5 Speed Manual Gearbox. The fuel efficiency of 5 Speed Manual is 20 kmpl and 17.4 kmpl is of the CVT Gearbox.

The Venue is powered by the 1.5 L 4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel producing 113.98 BHP and 250 NM of torque paired to 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox.
The Mahindra XUV300 is also available with the 1.5 L 4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel that generates 115.05 BHP and 300 NM of torque paired to 6 Speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox. Other than the Turbo Diesel and Turbo Petrol powertrain, the Nexon misses out on normal Petrol engine. But its rivals except for the Mahindra XUV300 comes with this engine. The Hyundai Venue comes with 1.2 L 4 Cylinder Petrol producing 81.80 BHP and 113.8 NM of torque paired to 5 Speed Manual, and 7 Speed IVT Gearbox. Then there is the 1.2 L 4 Cylinder Petrol that generates 81.86 BHP and 115 NM of torque paired to 5 Speed Manual Gearbox only with 18.4 kmpl fuel efficiency. As you can see, when it comes to pricing, the Nexon Facelift is positioned just above the Maruti Brezza at Rs. 8.10 Lakh for the ‘Smart’ variant and Rs. 13 Lakh for the ‘FearlessPR+ S DT DCT’ variant.
Verdict: In the end, the decision to buy which SUV depends totally on you, however, if you’re looking for an SUV that is affordable, the Nissan Magnite is a nice option for you. Recently, the Hyundai Venue got ADAS update and if you’re looking for an SUV with that, then the Venue is a good choice. But, if you want the best from an SUV, and if you can afford it, the Nexon Facelift is a right choice as it comes with features its rivals is yet to receive.
