Tata Motors flagship SUV’s, Harrier and Safari are the first model to scored 5 Star Safety Rating at the Bharat NCAP, and these rating are very similar to the Global NCAP.
The first ever crash test of the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) has been conducted with the first model being the Tata’s flagship SUV, Safari, and Harrier, and the crash test results has been revealed. In Adult Occupant Protection, the Safari and Harrier both scored 30.08 points out of 32 points. Out of these 30.08 points, the SUVs scored full 16 points in Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test, but in Frontal offset deformable barrier test it scored 14.08 points the chest area shows marginal protection.
In the Child Occupant Protection Test, it score 44.54 points out of 49 points. Based on this, the two Tata SUVs were awarded 5 Star Safety Rating, and interestingly both the SUVs were awarded the 5 Star Rating in Global NCAP’s crash test with similar scores in Adult and Child Occupant Protection test.
It’s worth noting that participation in Bharat NCAP is voluntary, and car manufacturers can choose whether to have their models tested. Bharat NCAP should not be confused with India’s mandatory crash test regulations, which primarily focus on a car’s structural safety. Despite being a voluntary program, more than three dozen cars have already signed up for crash testing in the first phase, indicating that OEMs are keen to establish their safety credentials. With growing awareness, an increasing number of consumers are selecting cars with high safety ratings, giving OEMs a strong incentive to improve their safety standards.
