Tata to launch Nexon, Altroz, Tigor and More EVs in India in next 2 years

Tata Motors India have a number of products in their lineup.They have hatchback, sedans and SUVs as well.As most of the carmakers are shifting towards the electric world, Tata Motors is not ready to stay back.

At the 74th Annual General Meeting, company’s chairman N Chandrasekaran in an interaction with the shareholders revealed that Tata Motors is preparing four electric cars for launch in India in the next 12-18 months.He also revealed that the four models will be Nexon electric, Altroz electric, Tigor electric and a fourth undisclosed one.

We expect that the fourth model will be the electric version of Tata Hornbill, the micro SUV which will be showcased at Auto Expo 2020.Talking about Tigor EV, it is still in existence as of now with a range of arrow d 140 km.

However, Tata Motors will bring a facelifted variant of Tigor EV in 2020 in which certain changes will be made.Its range would be increased from 140 km to around 200-250 km.Certain changes would be made to the interior and exterior as well to keep it updated as well as refreshing as we have seen on test a number of times as well.Earlier it was available only for the commercial segment, but now it will be open to sale to the private buyers as well.

Tata Altroz and Altroz EV made their debut at Geneva International Motor Show 2019 and Altroz is being ready for launch in India in the month of August 2019.Altroz EV will get a range upto 300 km and is expected to be priced between Rs. 13 Lakhs and Rs. 15 Lakhs (Ex Showroom).It will be slightly different than standard Altroz in the form of front enclosed grille and much more.

Tata Nexon has been in the market for a few years as of now and is also ready for an update as well.Nexon facelift has also been seen a number of times on test as well.The Nexon electric will be carrying the facelifted design as well as features and will be launched in India in the second half of 2020.Range of Nexon electric will be between 300 km and 350 km.Since it is a SUV and has a standard price high, it will be fitting around 18 Lakh mark.

Nexon electric will be directly rivalling the likes of Mahindra XUV 300 EV which will come with a massive range of around 400 km.But it will be around 1-2 Lakhs premium over Nexon.All the automakers are eyeing an electric SUV for Indian market.Take Hyundai Kona which comes with excellent range with MG and other brands in race to bring their EVs.

These electric vehicles will be featuring lithium ion battery and they are expected to offer AC and DC fast charger which could juice up 80% of the battery in around 60 minutes.Active steps are made for the quick shift to electric world.More and more infrastructure for charging EVs is being setup, also GST on electric vehicles has come down from 12% to 5% and that on the electric battery from 18% to 5%.

The Hornbill EV is expected to be the fourth electric car for car makers.Fuel powered Hornbill will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 along with its electrified version.Since Hornbill will be priced in India between Rs. 4 Lakhs and Rs. 6 Lakhs, Hornbill EV is expected to be priced in India under 10 Lakhs.While the fuel powered Hornbill will go on sale in India in the later part of 2020, its electric variant will be launching in India in early 2021.

Its great to see that Tata Motors have an aggressive plan in bringing EVs to the market.The electric vehicles are future of India and they will surely be receiving an immense response in the market, take Hyundai Kona which had a great start by grabbing 120 bookings in no time.

We will a number of electric vehicles running by 2020 and the Auto Expo 2020 will be lit up the EVs as they will be the centre of attraction for this time.
