Tesla has been spotted testing the Model 3 electric sedan specifically tailored for the Indian market. This electric sedan seen here has been exported from Germany, where Tesla manufactures Right-Hand Drive (RHD) cars. This move underscores Tesla’s commitment to expanding its presence globally, with India being a pivotal part of its strategy.

Recently, Government of India reduced import taxes on EVs to 15% in order to accelerate electric vehicles growth but with that comes a condition that the brands needs to invest $500 Million and start local production in the next 3 Years. Tesla has been fighting the Government of India to reduce the import taxes because it was way too high, but with lower taxes to boost EVs in India, Tesla has begun its testing process in India.

Tesla prepares to allocate right-hand-drive (RHD) cars for India, the details on these models for now remains a mystery. However, India’s import provisional allowance is of up to 8,000 units annually at reduced tax rates which presents a promising opportunity for Tesla’s entry into the Indian EV market. However, where these EVs will be locally produced is a bit of challenge for Tesla given they the factory location hasn’t been finalised, but they exploring in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, or Gujarat for permanent setup.
Notably, Tesla will also prioritise the development of charging infrastructure known as “Tesla Superchargers.” By enhancing the accessibility and reliability of charging stations, Tesla aims to accelerate the transition towards EVs, garnering wider acceptance even from other manufacturers.
If we take the German Specs of Tesla Model 3, it measures 4720 MM Length, 2089 MM Width, 1441 MM Height with a 2875 MM Wheelbase. It gets features Wireless Charging, 17 Speakers – 2 Speakers & 2 Amplifiers, 15.4-inch front and 8-inch rear infotainment system, full digital cluster, ventilated seats, Traction and Acceleration Modes, Autonomous Driving (Autopilot), and so much more. It has a full panoramic glass roof with UV protection offering plenty of light and clear view without any worries.
There is Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) version which gives 513 KM Range while also sprinting from 0 – 100 KMPH in 6.1 Seconds; then there is the Long Range All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) version giving 629 KM range while also doing 0 – 100 KMPH in 4.4 Seconds at 201 KMPH top speed. The Model 3 can give 282 KMs Range in 15 minutes through a 170 kW DC Charger.
The timing of Tesla’s launch of the Model 3 in India is still uncertain. It could potentially happen by the end of this year or in early 2025. Initially, the Model 3 will be imported to India, leading to an expected price of around Rs. 50 Lakhs. However, once local production begins, significant price drops can be anticipated.
