In August 2024, the top 10 best-selling SUVs in India were led by Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza, which dominated the market with 19,190 units sold, marking an impressive 32% year-on-year (YoY) growth. The Brezza’s strong performance highlights its continued appeal among SUV buyers.
Hyundai Creta followed closely with 16,762 units sold, achieving a 21% YoY growth and maintaining its prominent position in the SUV segment. On 4th September, Hyundai launched the Knight Edition for the SUV which would further boost the sales of the SUV to retain it’s 1st position. Tata Punch continued its steady rise with 15,643 units sold, reflecting an 8% growth in the competitive compact SUV category. The Punch SUV continues it’s testing process and it’s likely we’ll see it launching by 2nd half of 2025.

Mahindra’s Scorpio [combined sales of Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N] recorded a notable 39% YoY increase, selling 13,787 units, cementing its rugged reputation in the Indian market. Recently, Mahindra updated Scorpio N with the two missing features – Ventilated Seats for 1st and 2nd Row, and Auto Dimming IRVM which will help solve the missing feature complaint by consumers. Maruti Suzuki Fronx posted stable sales at 12,387 units, registering a 2% YoY increase, while Tata Nexon had a standout performance, selling 12,289 units with a significant 53% YoY growth.
Kia Sonet had an exceptional month, selling 10,073 units, and achieving a remarkable 144% YoY growth, solidifying its position as one of the fastest-growing compact SUVs. Hyundai Venue, despite a slight decline of 17% YoY, still managed to sell 9,085 units, showing continued demand in the subcompact SUV market.
Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara sold 9,021 units, experiencing a 24% decline YoY, while Mahindra XUV700 rounded out the top 10 with 9,007 units sold, registering a strong 38% YoY growth.
