These 6 Maruti Cars did not pass the crash test;Is their future in danger?

Maruti Suzuki,the leading automaker in India announced that 9 of their 15 passenger cars on sale in India comply with new crash test norms that will be made mandatory by 1st October 2019.These nine vehicles strictly stick to new crash test regulations dealing with off-set frontal impact,side impact and full-frontal impact procedures.

Additionally,from October this year,new pedestrian protection regulations will be enforced on all new vehicles and after October 2020,these norms will cover all cars on sale in the market.



The vehicles that have passed crash test includes S-Cross, Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, Baleno, Dzire, Swift, Ignis and Celerio.Cars which were not able to clear test includes Omni, Gypsy, Eeco, WagonR, Alto 800 and K10.These cars will either be discontinued or updated to meet the new crash test norms.



Maruti Suzuki Alto,Eeco,Gypsy,WagonR,Omni are important for company’s sales.They account for nearly half of sales of total Maruti sales in a single month.Also Maruti is launching Ciaz facelift in mid-august along with New Ertiga ,Maruti WagonR stated for the launch in late 2018.For long standing Gypsy,Suzuki will be introducing Jimny although Maruti has not yet confirmed any plans of manufacturing this car in India.While Omni and Eeco’s future is not clear,Maruti may bring out certain alternatives so as to avoid huge amount on upgrades of these cars. 



Interestingly,Maruti Suzuki has a full-fledged crash testing unit at the company’s R&D facility in Rohtak,Haryana.Here,the carmaker revealed that it conducts 35-40 tests for each model under development.
