Flex-fuel Vehicles – What you need to know!

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Mr. Nitin Gadkari on Sunday at an event in Nagpur talked about the need of having alternate fuel options for vehicles other than the electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions and to not be dependent on pricey fuel options Diesel and Petrol. Union Minister, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, is a firm believer of benefits of using the green fuel as an alternate to Petrol and Diesel.

He claims that he can bring down the crude oil import bill significantly, he further adds that switching to flex-fuel vehicles can benefit both the environment and be cost-effectiveness to consumers. Mr. Nitin Gadkari on Sunday said this, “We’re bringing new vehicles that will run entirely on ethanol. Bajaj, TVS, and Hero Scooters will run on 100% ethanol”, and while talking, he announced that the Toyota Camry will launch in August which will be the first flex fuel car in India that will entirely run on ethanol. He also added that the luxury sedan is also able to generate 40% electricity.

The reason behind the centre is relying on alternate fuel option is the increasing prices of Petrol and Diesel. With the rise of petrol and diesel, Mr. Nitin Gadkari thinks that ethanol-based vehicles provides an solution for people that doesn’t want to switch to electric vehicles just yet. He says, “If you compare it (flex-fuel) with petrol, it’ll be Rs. 15 per litre of petrol because ethanol’s rate is Rs. 60 while the rate of Petrol is Rs. 120 per litre, plus it would generate 40% electricity. The average would be Rs. 15 per litre.”

The Toyota Camry has features like 3-zone climate control, ventilated seats, single-pane sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, 9-inch infotainment system with Apple Carplay/Android Auto, wireless phone charging, 9-speaker JBL sound system, and many more. We’ll have to wait for more details from Toyota about the flex-fuel Camry.
