A new video reveals staggering 7-year waiting period for Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder’s base variant. Toyota’s strategy involves not manufacturing the base variant, aiming to upsell customers to higher variants at dealerships. This tactic echoes industry-wide practice, enticing customers with aggressively priced base models before promoting pricier upgrades.
Yash Gupta shared a video on his Instagram page showcasing the waiting times for different variants of HyRyder and Hycross. Car manufacturers have been experiencing production issues leading to extended waiting periods. However, the waiting time for the base variant of the Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder is exceptionally long. In contrast, the waiting period for other variants is relatively shorter. For instance, the strong hybrid version has a waiting period of 6-12 months, while the mild hybrid variant ranges from 2-12 months, excluding the base E version. The reason behind the lengthy waiting period for the base variant is that Toyota has no intention of manufacturing it. This strategy is not unique to Toyota; many manufacturers adopt a similar approach. They often introduce a base variant with minimal features at an attractive price point to lure customers to the dealership. Once there, customers are encouraged to upgrade to higher variants with more features, ultimately driving higher sales and revenue for the manufacturer.Anyway, the Hyryder gets two powertrains – 1.5 L Petrol producing 101.64 BHP and 137 NM Torque mated to 5 Speed Manual (MT), and 6 Speed Automatic (AT) Gearbox; the other is the 1.5 L Petrol Hybrid producing 114 BHP and 141 NM Torque paired to eCVT Gearbox.
