Toyota is reportedly working on a new 7 Seater SUV to fill the gap between the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Innova HyCross. This new 7 Seater SUV will compete with the likes of Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, etc. In this article, we’re explaining all the details revealed to us about the SUV so far!
Toyota earlier this year made headlines which stated that they’re considering setting up a third plant in India to increase the annual production capacity. In this new plant is where Toyota aims to manufacture the new 7 Seater SUV which by the way internally is codenamed “340D”, and it’s very possible the SUV may not be unveiled until the end of 2025. This new SUV is based on the Corolla Cross, and will be built on the TNGA-C Platform which also underpins the Innova HyCross.
Globally, the Corolla Cross has a wheelbase of 2640 MM while we expect the Indian-Specific SUV to be extended by 160 MM to accommodate a third row of seats. This also means the SUV will sport longer rear doors for easy access to third row, and possibly redesigned C and D-Pillars.

In Engine Options, we don’t have any confirmation yet, but we expect the 1.5 L 3 Cylinder Petrol Hybrid engine to be present on the SUV given the demands for these are so high, Toyota had to halt the bookings for the Hycross Hybrid trims. Other Engine we expect to be present is the 2.0 L 4 Cylinder Petrol which could have little less power and torque output to be fuel efficient.
In Features, it’ll likely get 10.25-inch infotainment system, JBL Sound System, Ventilated Seats, Driver and Co-Passenger Powered Seats, Fully Digital Instrument Cluster, panoramic sunroof, and so much more. As for the Safety, it’ll definitely get Level 2 ADAS, 360 Surround View Camera, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, 6 Airbags, Hill Descent Control, TPMS, and so much more.
We should be hearing more information on the SUV in the coming months.
