Delhi to Ahmedabad in 3.5 Hours: How is it possible?
The Ahmedabad-Delhi bullet train is now one of six new high-speed rail projects planned by the Centre to enhance connectivity and promote tourism across India. In September 2020, the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) began the bidding process for the final alignment design of this route, incorporating aerial LiDAR surveys to speed up planning. These surveys have been completed, and the project is now awaiting final approval from the Centre.
According to railway officials, the nearly 900 km elevated corridor between Ahmedabad and Delhi will reduce travel time between the two cities by approximately nine hours. The tracks will be aligned with the existing railway network to minimize land acquisition needs, which typically consume significant time and often result in litigation.
The train service will originate from Sabarmati station, where a multimodal hub has been established. The route will include nine major stations, excluding the terminals at Ahmedabad and Delhi, covering key locations in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Haryana before reaching Delhi. The train is designed to operate at a maximum speed of 350 km per hour.
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train service is slated to commence operations by July 2026.
