Upcoming Toyota Cars in India 2020-21

Toyota India relies largely on Innova Crysta MPV and Fortuner for the chunk of their sales. With the Toyota-Maruti Suzuki venture, Toyota India have got Glanza which is selling in good number and now Vitara Brezza, Ertiga are also going to Toyota showrooms. Here is a list of Upcoming Toyota cars in India 2020-21:

1. Toyota Urban Cruiser

Toyota Urban Cruiser will not just be rebadged Vitara Brezza like Glanza but more than that although the dimensions as well as platform will be the same as that of the Maruti’s compact SUV.

Certain tweaks will be made to the front grille, bumpers, lights as well as redesigned alloy wheels. Also the fit and finish as well as interior quality will be exactly similar to Vitara Brezza with a new dual tone interior theme as compared to all black single tone environment of the Maruti’s best selling compact SUV.

Toyota Urban Cruiser

Dimensions of Toyota Urban Cruiser are 3995 mm (Length), 1790 mm (Width), 1640 mm (Height), 2500 mm (Wheelbase), 328 litres (Boot Space), 198 mm (Ground Clearance), 5.2 m (Turning Radius) and 48 litres of fuel tank capacity.

Toyota Urban Cruiser will get the same engine option as of Maruti Vitara Brezza but the difference is that the former will have SHVS technology for manual as well as automatic whereas the latter comes with mild hybrid only for AT trims.

1.5 litre K15B 4 cylinder SHVS petrol engine makes 103 BHP and 138 NM of torque. It gets the option of 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic will fuel efficiency of 20.5 kmpl for manual (SHVS), 17.5 kmpl for (non SHVS) and 18.76 kmpl for the AT respectively.

Toyota Urban Cruiser will get variants based on the top end trims of Vitara Brezza – ZXI, ZXI+. It will offers smart hybrid, non smart hybrid for manual and smart hybrid for automatic trims. Total trims includes – G, G Smart Hybrid, G Smart Hybrid AT, V, V Smart Hybrid and V Smart Hybrid AT.

Top features of Urban Cruiser are LED Projector headlamps, chrome inside door handles, push button start with smart keyless entry, cruise controls, 7-inch infotainment system with Apple Carplay, voice commands, android auto, mirror link, leather steering, auto folding ORVMs, 6 speakers.

Top safety equipments includes reverse parking camera, auto dimming IRVM, hill start assist, front seatbelts with pretensioner, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, LED fog lamps, height adjustable front seatbelts and dual frontal airbags.

Also the upcoming Toyota’s compact SUV will offer 3 years and 1,00,000 kms of warranty package as compared to Maruti’s standard 2 years and 40,000 kms.

Toyota Urban Cruiser will be priced between Rs. 9.18 Lakhs and Rs. 11.23 Lakhs (Ex Showroom). Rivals at that time will increase with the entry of Nissan Magnite, Kia Sonet and Mahindra XUV300, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Honda WR-V.

Earlier scheduled for August 2020 launch, the Toyota badged Vitara Brezza will be introduced in India in November 2020.

2. Toyota Innova Crysta CNG

Toyota India launched the BS 6 updated Innova Crysta petrol and Diesel engine back in January 2020 with a hike of upto Rs. 43,000 for petrol versions and upto Rs. 1.12 Lakhs for the diesel variants. The carmakers plans to introduce a CNG variant of the MPV since the significant increase in price will affect the overall sales.

Presently, the Innova Crysta is offered with 2.4 litre Diesel engine an 2.7 litre petrol unit. Diesel engine produces 148 BHP and 343 NM and comes with manual as well as 6 Speed AT.

The 2.7 litre dual VVT-i petrol engine makes 164 BHP and 245 NM of peak torque and comes paired with 5 Speed MT and 6 Speed AT. The CNG variant will be based on the 2.7 L petrol although with slightly less figures, better fuel economy and will be offered with just manual gearbox.

CNG will be based on the base petrol trim of Toyota Innova Crysta – G 7 seater MT which carries a price tag of Rs. 16.14 Lakhs and with the CNG, the price will go up by Rs. 80,000 with the Petrol-CNG I-fuel trim expected to cost around Rs. 17 Lakhs (Ex Showroom).

Top Features of G MT variant are Power foldable ORVMs with welcome function, Cooled Glovebox, 4 speakers, tilt and telescopic steering, shark finn antenna, steering mounted controls, rear wiper and washer, rear armrest.

Safety kit includes rear defogger, speed sensing auto door lock, impact sensing auto door unlock, emergency brake signal, 3 airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill start assist, Vehicle stability control, 3 pointer seatbelt for front and rear passengers, brake assist.

Toyota India is expected to launch the CNG variant of Toyota Innova Crysta by November 2020.

3. Toyota Fortuner Facelift

Toyota Fortuner Facelift has been spied couple of testing in heavy camouflage in Thailand and has been launched there on June 4, 2020 in standard and legender trims. In India, it will be brought by the carmakers by March 2021.

Facelift Fortuner gets number of exterior changes, most visible of them is the elongated front grille which has got the chrome slat remove while retaining the surrounds. It gets big size skid plates while the housing of the fog lamps has been redesigned. Alloys are new while tail lamps are sleeker.

The interiors have also got multiple updates in the form of bigger 8-inch infotainment system with android auto, apple CarPlay. Instrument cluster is also new while the seat leather material is slightly tweaked. Fit and finish quality is same as before.

Toyota Fortuner Facelift 2021

New features that Fortuner gets with the facelift update are 8-inch infotainment system with all the modern tech, auto foldable ORVMs, 9 speaker JBL sound system an LED single colour ambient lighting.

It will be available with the same set of engine but the diesel engine gets a slight increase in the power and torque figures: Transmission options are also carry forwarded.

  • 2.7 litre Dual VVT-I petrol engine makes 164 BHP and 245 NM. Transmission options are similar like earlier with 5 Speed Manual and 6 Speed Torque Converter Automatic gearbox on offer.
  • 2.8 litre Diesel engine (RWD, 4WD) which earlier produced 175 BHP an 420 NM (MT) – 450 NM (AT) has now got both boosted up with 201 BHP and 500 NM of torque available. 6 Speed MT an 6 Speed AT will be available with slight decrease in the claimed mileage figures.

With an increase in around Rs. 50,000, Toyota Fortuner Facelift will be launched in India between Rs. 29 Lakhs and Rs. 35 Lakhs (Ex Showroom). Rivals includes Ford Endeavour an MG Gloster.

4. Toyota Badged Ertiga

The third product under this joint venture will be Toyota badged Ertiga or you can say Toyota badged XL6, as the XL6 will be going to the Toyota showrooms with some exterior and interior modifications powered by the same petrol engine.

Toyota’s upcoming MPV under 10 lakhs will be based on the XL6 while certain tweaks will be made to the headlamps, bumpers, Toyota logo to distinguish it from XL6. Also coming to the interior, it will have dual tone upholstery and not single tone all black theme.

Dimensions, feature list as well as HEARTECT body structure of XL6 will be shared with the Toyota’s MPV while there will be a certain price hike when the premium 6 seater will go from Maruti to Toyota showrooms.

The difference will also be in the available engine options. XL6 comes with only petrol engine while Toyota’s MPV will have both petrol as well as diesel powertrains on offer.

  • 1.5 litre K-Series Smart Hybrid petrol engine makes 103 BHP and 138 NM of torque. Available with 5 Speed MT / 4 Speed AT, claimed mileage is 19.01 kmpl and 17.99 kmpl respectively.
  • 1.5 litre DDiS Diesel engine belts out 94 BHP and 225 NM of maximum torque. This unit can be had with just 6 speed manual gearbox with mileage to be around 24 kmpl.

Top features of Toyota badged MPV are LED headlamps, tail lamps, leather wrapped steering, 6 speakers, 7” infotainment system, automatic ac, push button start with keyless entry, cruise control, steering mounted controls, leather seat upholstery.

Top safety features that the Toyota’s MPV will offer are 2 airbags, automatic headlamps, electronic stability control, hill start assist, rear parking sensors with reverse camera, rear demister, ABS with EBD, speed sensing auto door lock, height adjustable front seat belts.

It will be around Rs. 10,000 costlier than the Maruti XL6 with estimated price of Rs. 9.9 Lakhs and Rs. 11.6 Lakhs (Ex Showroom).

5. Toyota Fortuner Legender

Toyota Fortuner Legender will be brought to India as TRD Sportivo variant. It gets sporty elements inside out and will be offered in just Diesel engine option. 

Upfront, it features Lexus type grille with piano black surrounds. The LED headlamps looks super stunning. Alloys wheels are likely to be of 19-inches while at the rear tail lamps are tweaks a bit.

2021 Toyota Fortuner Legender

Coming to the interiors, unlike the standard variants of Fortuner, Legender comes with sporty black interior theme along with bigger infotainment system, more number of speakers, more features as well.

New features that the Fortuner Legender will offer are 360 degree surround view camera, 19-inch alloys, 11 JBL speakers, bigger 9-inch infotainment system and LED ambient interior lighting.

2.8 L Diesel engine with enhanced output figures will be one offer. Power is 201 BHP while torque is 500 NM. Only 6 Speed automatic will be available while the manual transmission will be given a miss. 

Toyota Fortune Legender 2021 will be around Rs. 1 Lakh costlier than the top end trim of Fortuner which translates into ex showroom price of Rs. 36 lakhs.
