Volkswagen has finally revealed it’s all new smallest SUV, the T-Cross.Volkswagen T-Cross is based on the same platform as of new generation polo that is sold worldwide.Certain interior elements in VW T-Cross will be carried from the polo hatchback.
Coming to specifications, it is 4,133 mm long, 1,798 mm wide with height of 1,563 mm.The wheelbase of T-Cross will be 2,565 mm.Cargo area of the SUV will be 385 litres and 455 litres which depends on the positioning of the back seats.Rear seats can be folded which increases the bootspace of the T-Cross SUV upto 1,281 litres.

Volkswagen T-Cross will be based on MQB-A0 platform which even shared with Audi A1 and Seat Arona along with Polo.With India launch of T-Cross expected in 2020, it will rival the likes of Renault Captur, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Maruti S-Cross.T-Cross will derive exterior design from Tigaun and Touareg.
Exterior of the SUV will sport slightly distinctive front section in India when compared to it’s European Spec version.The front design looks quite identical to Tiguan and Touareg with large and wide headlamps and LED Daytime Running Lights joining the front grille.The front fog lamp design and lower front grille takes inspiration from premium Tiguan SUV.Moving to the side, It sits on 17-inch stylish wheel arches and a thick body cladding runs across it’s sides.At the back, it gets T-Cross badging under the number plate and stunning LED Tail lamps.A large horizontal bar runs across the rear gate and connects both these LED tail lamps.
Volkswagen T-Cross SUV will get sporty colour paints along with dual tone colour schemes for modern day buyers.Even the dashboard of the SUV will be finished in different colours.It will get host of premium equipments including 10.2-inch Volkswagen Active Info Digital Cockpit Instrumentational Display, ambiente lighting, 8-inch advanced touchscreen infotainment system with host of connectivity options, Automatic A/C and electric sunroof.In terms of safety, it boasts 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill start assist and traction control system.
T-Cross SUV will come with a couple of engine options.It will not get a 1.6-litre TDI diesel unit making 95 HP of power in India as it would be limited only to the European markets.While the Indian-spec T-Cross will be powered by the same 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI petrol engine that also powers the polo hatchback in India which is good for 95 PS and 113 PS.This motor is likely to get only 6-speed manual transmission.The higher variants will get 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine which outputs 150 HP of power with front wheel drive transmission.A third engine on offer will be large 1.6-litre MSI petrol unit which makes 110 HP of power.This engine will get both 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox.
Price of the SUV is expected to between Rs. 10 – Rs. 16 Lakhs and will face tough competition from the segment leader Hyundai Creta, upcoming Nissan Kicks SUV, Maruti S-Cross and Renault Captur.
