Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia, indian-spec models, today received a 5-star Global NCAP rating, and is the first mid-size Sedan to get 5-star rating.
The Virtus and the Slavia becomes the first Indian-spec mid-size sedans to receive 5-star Global NCAP safety rating under their new testing protocol. Mahindra Scorpio-N, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun were the first three models to get 5-star Global NCAP safety rating under the new testing protocol. On the other hand, Maruti Alto K10 and WagonR receives poor rating of 2-star and 1-star respectively.
The Slavia and Virtus sedans scored 29.74 points out of 34 points in adult occupant protection test. It is 0.07 points higher than the Kushaq and Taigun SUVs. The protection offered for the driver’s and passengers head and neck was rated good with the chest protection rated as adequate. The Slavia and Virtus got adequate rating for the side impact test with 14.2 points out of 17 points.
For the side pole impact test, it got ‘OK’ rating although it received marginal rating for the protection offered for the chest region. The Global NCAP reported that the footwell and bodyshell area of the mid-size sedans are capable of taking more loads.
The Skoda and Volkswagen scored good in the child occupant protection test as they received 42 points out of 49 points with a 5-star rating. It got full 12 points in the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation and also got full 24 points in the dynamic score. The Global NCAP used 18-months-old and 3-year-old child dummies that were fitted in Virtus and Slavia with ISOFIX anchorages with the seats facing the rear side, which prevents them from head exposure in a fatal crash.
Even though the seatbelts are mandatory to be worn all the time for the driver and the passengers, it’ll still be not stop from getting injured. The best is to drive safely and take care of your family and your loved ones.
