Crash Results Out for the WagonR and Alto K10!

WagonR and Alto K10 Global NCAP results are revealed!

Indian-Spec Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR and Alto K10 got tested at the Global NCAP and lets just say the results are not what you expect it to be. The WagonR scored one star and the Alto K10 scored two stars.

Maruti WagonR, Alto K10 Crash Test – What you should know!

Maruti Suzuki sent its two models, WagonR, and Alto K10 for crash test at the Global NCAP and the results are not great for Maruti. The Indian-spec WagonR scored one star while the Alto K10 scored two stars in the crash test, under the new testing protocol. The WagonR scored 19.69 points out of 34 points in adult occupants protection test. The Alto K10 on the other hand scored 21.67 points out of 34 points in adult occupants protection test.

However, your child is not safe in either of the car as both the cars scored 0 stars in child occupant protection test. The WagonR scored 3.40 points out of 49 points in Child occupant protection test while the Alto K10 scored 3.52 points out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection test. But first let’s talk about the WagonR’s crash test.

WagonR Adult Occupants Protection Test result.

The WagonR, in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, scored 6.7 points and in the side deformable barrier test scored 13 points, adding 19.69 points in adult protection occupants test. However, the side pole impact test was not conducted as the WagonR does not have curtain airbags on offer, only two airbags at the front. In the fact sheet by Global NCAP, it was noted that “the protection offered to the driver’s head was adequate and passenger’s head was good.”

While the chest protection for the driver showed “weak protection” and was “adequate” for the passenger. The knees of the driver and the passenger was offered with marginal protection and they added that this could have impact from the “dangerous structures” behind the dashboard. The Global NCAP also rated the footwell area and bodyshell area as unstable, and not capable of withstanding further loadings. The WagonR also has no ESC (Electronic Stability Control) as standard.

The WagonR scored no stars in the child occupants protection test as the WagonR has no ISOFIX anchorages as standard for all the variants, so the results were obviously not going to be great. The report says there is also no option to disable the front passenger airbag in case CRS (Child Restraint System) was installed, as well as it does not offer three-point seatbelts for all seating positions. The report further adds that the children is subject to high risk injuries in front and rear seating positions.

The Alto K10 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it scored 8.2 points and in the side movable deformable barrier test, it scored 12.4 points. However, no side pole impact test was conducted as the car has no curtain airbags on offer and only has two airbags in the front. In fact, the Global NCAP test reported that the “protection offered to the driver’s head and neck was good.”

What will happen now after this, hopefully, we expect Maruti to take this feedback and add more airbags and safety features and improvise on where they went wrong with the offerings.
