Tata’s first AWD in Years has launched and undercuts its rival by huge margin!

Tata Motors has officially launched the all-electric Harrier EV in India, introducing a new AWD variant alongside the existing RWD models. The Harrier EV is priced between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹28.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with bookings opening from July 2, 2025. The new electric SUV is available in three main trims – Adventure, Fearless+, and Empowered – and gets two battery pack options: 65kWh and 75kWh. The all-wheel-drive version comes exclusively with the larger battery and sits in the top Empowered grade.

First AWD Tata in Years

Marking Tata’s return to an all-wheel-drive configuration since the discontinuation of the Safari Storme, the Harrier EV QWD is a performance-oriented version equipped with dual motors. It generates a combined 313hp and 504Nm of torque — 156hp from the front motor and 235hp from the rear. This setup enables the electric SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 6.3 seconds. It also features six terrain modes including Normal, Snow, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, and Custom, along with an Off-road Assist mode and a Drift mode for enhanced dynamics.

Battery Specifications

The Harrier EV comes with two battery pack options — a 65kWh pack for the Adventure and Fearless+ trims, and a 75kWh unit for higher variants. The MIDC-certified range for the 75kWh versions stands at 627 km for RWD and 622 km for the AWD. In real-world testing under Tata’s internal C75 cycle, the RWD variant achieved a range of 480–505 km. Fast-charging capabilities are also impressive, with a 120kW DC fast charger capable of adding 250 km of range in just 15 minutes. AC charging using a 7.2kW unit takes about 10.7 hours for a full charge.

Design

In terms of styling, the Harrier EV retains much of the facelifted Harrier’s design language but incorporates EV-specific changes. A new closed-off grille, aero-optimised 19-inch alloy wheels, and EV badging help differentiate it. At the rear, the ‘Harrier.EV’ lettering on the tailgate adds a distinct identity. Dimensionally, it is 2mm longer and 22mm taller than the ICE version, with a wheelbase of 2,741mm.

Stealth Edition and Colour Options

Tata is offering the Harrier EV in four standard colour options — Empowered Oxide, Nainital Nocturne, Pristine White, and Pure Grey. In addition, a Stealth Edition will be available, featuring blacked-out elements similar to Tata’s popular Dark Editions.

Interior and Features

Inside the cabin, the Harrier EV gets several upgrades over its ICE sibling. The centrepiece is a 14.53-inch Samsung Neo QLED infotainment system, claimed to be a segment-first. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a powered Boss Mode for the rear seat. Premium features include a JBL 10-speaker setup with Dolby Atmos, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless charging, and a powered tailgate. The boot space stands at 502 litres, expandable to 999 litres with the rear seats folded. A frunk (front trunk) is also provided.

Safety Features

The Tata Harrier EV has earned a 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP, scoring 32/32 for Adult Occupant Protection and 45/49 for Child Occupant Protection. It comes with up to seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS with 20+ functions, ESC, blind spot monitoring, a 540-degree surround view camera, and a segment-first transparent ground projection feature for off-roading. Other key safety tech includes hill hold and descent control, TPMS, SOS function, rain-sensing wipers, and AVAS.

Drive Technology and Digital Architecture

Built on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform and supported by the TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer), the Harrier EV introduces advanced connectivity features. These include OTA updates, voice control, and the new DrivePay system that enables toll and charging payments without a mobile device. The Ultra Glide rear suspension with frequency-dependent damping enhances off-road comfort, while summon mode, vehicle-to-load (V2L), and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging elevate overall practicality.

Final Thoughts

The Tata Harrier EV is not just an electric version of a popular SUV; it’s a technological leap in Tata’s EV lineup. With its AWD variant, high range, fast-charging support, class-leading features, and a lifetime battery warranty, the Harrier EV is positioned as a value-rich alternative to traditional ICE SUVs and upcoming rivals like the Mahindra XUV.e9.
