The test mule of the Model Y was spotted in full camouflage with a red registration plate, confirming it is being homologated or awaiting permanent registration. Tesla has already signed a lease for its first showroom in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The company has applied for homologation of both the Model 3 and Model Y, confirming that both these EVs will be part of Tesla’s initial lineup for India.

There is no traditional instrument cluster for the driver, but rear passengers get an 8-inch display that supports video streaming and games. Key features also include Tesla Autopilot with advanced driver assistance and the Tesla Vision suite.

Battery, Range and Performance

Tesla is expected to offer two variants of the Model Y in India – RWD and Long Range AWD. The RWD variant will get a 59 kWh battery delivering 231 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, with a range of 455 km. In international markets, the Model Y supports fast charging up to 250 kW and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in about 4.7 seconds. It offers a total cargo space of 2,152 litres with rear seats folded, and sits on 19-inch to 20-inch alloy wheels.

Tesla Model 3 Coming to India

Tesla will also introduce the Model 3 in India with price expectations rom around Rs 30 lakh, competing with the likes of the XEV 9E, and upcoming Tata Harrier EV Internationally, the Model 3 is offered in Long Range, Long Range AWD, and Performance variants. The top-spec Performance model gets 510 bhp, a 490 km range, and does 0–100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.

Expected Launch Timeline and Pricing in India

Tesla is planning to launch the Model Y in India in the second half of 2025. Initially, it will be available in key metro cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, likely through the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. The expected pricing for the Tesla Model Y is between Rs 60 lakh to Rs 70 lakh.

Final Thoughts

With testing underway and showroom plans in motion, Tesla’s India launch is finally becoming a reality. The Model Y facelift brings modern design, powerful electric performance, and advanced features like Tesla Autopilot.
