Tesla in India is now a reality as the company as launched it’s SUV that comes with Full-Self Driving!

Tesla has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its first offering – the Tesla Model Y. Priced from Rs 59.89 lakh, the electric SUV is available in two variants: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range RWD, with the latter priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

Variants & Pricing

  • Model Y Standard RWD – Rs 59.89 lakh
  • Model Y Long Range RWD – Rs 67.89 lakh

On-road prices rise slightly due to an Administration & Service Fee of Rs 50,000 (including 18% GST). This puts the total on-road cost at Rs 61.07 lakh for the Standard and Rs 69.15 lakh for the Long Range variant. Customers can also choose from a range of add-ons, including Full-Self Driving (FSD) capability for an additional Rs 6 lakh.

Customers can begin the booking process by paying a refundable token amount of Rs 22,220. A follow-up payment of Rs 3 lakh is required within a week to confirm the booking.

Battery, Range & Performance

The Tesla Model Y RWD variant comes with a choice between 60 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs, paired with a single electric motor generating around 295 hp.

  • RWD variant offers a WLTP-certified range of 500 km
  • Long Range RWD gets a 75 kWh NMC battery, delivering 622 km range

In terms of performance:

  • Standard RWD: 0–100 KMPH in 5.9 seconds
  • Long Range RWD: 0–100 KMPH in 5.6 seconds
  • Top speed for both variants: 201 KMPH

Charging is fast and efficient, with support for up to 250 kW DC fast charging. Using Tesla Superchargers, you can top up 267 km in just 15 minutes (10-80% in under 30 mins).

The Model Y boasts Tesla’s signature minimalist design with a coupe-like silhouette, flush door handles, and an all-glass panoramic roof.

Competition

The Tesla Model Y will go up against other premium electric SUVs like the recently updated Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in India. Despite the premium pricing, the Model Y stands out for its efficiency, tech-rich features, and Tesla brand appeal.
